Purpose

Directs nursing services in the Health Care Center to maintain standards of patient care and advises medical staff, department heads, and administrators in matters related to nursing services.
This position is 8am to 5pm Monday through Friday with flexibility needed to work outside of that should the need arise.


Essential Functions

  • Develops and implements policies, procedures, and protocols relating to nursing services.
  • Ensures compliance with State and Federal regulations for the Skilled Nursing Facility.
  • Serves as a resource to the Arcadia Family of Companies (AFC) leadership team.
  • Conducts skills training to Licensed Nurses.
  • Oversees the MDS assessment and care plan process to assure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Actively participates in the Quality Assurance, Quality Assurance Performance Improvement and PIC programs.
  • Participates in the Admission, Transfer, and Discharge Planning for residents in the Health Care Center (HCC).
  • Communicates with residents and family members regarding nursing services.
  • Works with scheduler to develop staffing schedules to meet resident needs.
  • Assists in preparation of departmental budget.
  • Oversees the licensed nurses’ staffing schedules for the HCC.
  • Actively explores and initiates Ideas at Work projects to improve services and satisfaction.
  • Communicates with the Administrator and Medical Director regarding pertinent nursing services issues.
  • Oversees annual employee health screening in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Performs the necessary duties for emergency drills and situations such as fire, fire alarms, hurricanes, and other possible emergencies as outlined in the Disaster Response Playbook.
  • Interacts with residents/clients with patience, understanding and kindness in accord with Arcadia Family of Companies (AFC) mission and core values.
  • Exercises caution and good safety judgment in uncertain conditions or situations, and report and/or corrects hazards, potential or actual.
  • Respects and observes residents’/clients’ rights and privacy.
  • Other duties as assigned by Arcadia Family of Companies.


Supervisory Responsibilities

Manages licensed nurses in the Health Care Center. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit. Directs and coordinates professional consultant services for the Health Care Center. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; performance management; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Nursing from a four-year college or university, a minimum of three years Long Term Care experience, and a minimum of 3-5 years management experience and/or training in a healthcare setting or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations

Current State of Hawaii professional Registered Nurse license.

  • Uses standard office equipment, including a computer, monitor, printer, telephone, facsimile machine, calculator, copier and shredder. Proficient in computer skills as determined by Arcadia.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in the use of nursing equipment (i.e. glucometer, BP equipment, Oxygen, Suction Machines, Nebulizer, Defibrillator, Electrocardiogram, etc.)

  • Identifies and articulates subjects and issues. Provide suggestions and recommendations that are realistic and practical towards resolution or completion.
  • Courteously and professionally works with staff and vendors to resolve problems.
  • Analyze problems and develop strategies for resolution.


Computer Skills

  • Use of computers and software applications to input and research data.
  • Proficiency in using a computer and the Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word) of software applications.
