Purpose:

The Division of Student Affairs is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to fill the position of Director of Student Involvement. The successful candidate will provide leadership and guidance to student leaders, organizations, and individual students, and will be responsible for developing and implementing engaging student programming that promotes leadership, diversity awareness, community service, academic scholarship, and supports the achievement of Student Learning Outcomes. The successful candidate must also demonstrate the University’s core values of social justice, intellectual pursuit, and service to humanity through their work.

Accountabilities:

  • Provides leadership and guidance for student leaders, student groups and individual students
  • Plan, develop, implement and assess student programs that work to meet student involvement co-curricular and intended student learning outcomes
  • Create student experiences that incorporate student development theory appropriate for the Touro Nevada student population
  • Assist student organizations with advisement, program planning, leadership development and member recognition
  • Provide support to student organizations in policy development, event planning, organization leadership, intramural planning, space management, and cultural opportunities
  • Meet regularly with student leaders and provide opportunities to enhance their leadership and communication skill
  • Primary resource for individual students or groups as they work to develop and/or sustain student organizations, plan member activities, implement student programs and/or develop service opportunities
  • Coordinate risk management as it pertains to student-planned activities and organizations
  • Plan, schedule and coordinate student-oriented institutional events such as White Coat ceremony, Commencement ceremonies, New Student Orientation, DO Match Day, and major sporting events with the Touro campuses
  • Coordinate with academic departments to plan and implement pinning ceremonies
  • Provide leadership in planning and/or assisting with institutional events such as new student orientation, and/or holiday celebrations
  • Assess student needs and preferences and plan, market and implement a variety of programs throughout the year in response to student needs and institutional goals
  • Co-develop and coordinate annual schedule of cultural events and student programs
  • Plan and execute University-wide co-curricular service learning programming for students
  • Plan, budget, coordinate and evaluate programs and activities
  • Prepare analytical and comprehensive divisional reports for the Dean of Students and the Student Affairs division including budgets, feasibility analysis of new activities as well as assessment of student learning and satisfaction
  • Works to mitigate risk when working with student organization and in planning student development opportunities
  • Coordinate assessment efforts for the Division of Student Affairs
  • Coordinate and advise a TUN student governing boards
  • Facilitate and oversee the Division of Student Affairs social media presence including Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, etc.
  • Co-Advise the Council of Presidents and the OMSGA Student Government, Student Senate, and any other student organizations as requested by the Dean of Students
  • Assist with diversity and social justice related programs under the guidance of the Director of Diversity, Inclusion, and Outreach
  • Coordinate all student programming within the Division of Students and create a master calendar of events that is advertised in a variety of mediums to the university community.
  • Collaborate with Division of Student Affairs leadership to create a more unified student experience.
  • Assist with the University’s student conduct process; manage student conduct hearings and serve as an investigator for alleged violations of the Student Code of Conduct.
  • Coordinate student disciplinary actions with university offices, such as Student Counseling Services, Academic Deans and Directors, University Counsel, and/or the Dean of Students.
  • Oversee the Wellness Center and E-Sports Lounge including the supervision of student staff in both areas, coordinating programming for the spaces, regularly checking equipment to ensure it is functioning properly, and ensuring that all users adhere to policies and procedures.
  • Stay up-to-date on trends and best practices in university student involvement and incorporating them into programming
  • Manage Student Involvement budget, following all University policies.

Specific Responsibilities:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Master’s degree in student personnel administration and/or related field required

Experience:

  • Higher education experience required. Four years of experience in higher education preferred
  • Student leadership experience strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of and/or experience planning large-scale events preferred
  • One year of student advising and supervising experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of and/or experience in advising student government, student organizations, and student activities preferred.
  • Knowledge of and/or experience in creating an inclusive and socially just environment for students.
  • Knowledge of and/or experience in working with students of diverse and differing backgrounds.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of student development theory, student learning theory, identity development, student leadership development, and cultural competency
  • Ability to design and analyze assessment of student learning and assessment of student satisfaction
  • Knowledge of student organization development and management
  • Ability to develop and manage a budget

**SPECIAL NOTICE**

As we work to keep everyone safe and healthy, Touro will be requiring every student and employee to be fully vaccinated prior to coming on campus, starting June 1, 2021.
