Position: Director of Youth Programs

Reports to: Chief of Programs

About Position: The mission of Mothers for Justice and Equality is to end neighborhood violence by empowering mothers and youth to challenge the normalization of violence and become effective catalysts for change in their homes, schools, and communities. By reclaiming the identity of our communities, we restore a sense of hope and purpose for children, youth, and adults.

MJE serves residents of Roxbury, Mattapan, Dorchester, and surrounding communities; neighborhoods facing the highest rates of community violence and home to the lowest income families. Families are struggling with parent incarceration, grandparents raising young children, teen parents struggling to stay in school and work, teen and family homelessness, substance use, community violence, and much more.

MJE clients have suffered trauma, are single mother heads of households with multiple state agency involvement; homeless families; parenting youth receiving benefits (ages 16-24); clients with little or no work history; clients with Limited English Proficiency; clients with little or no high school; and formerly incarcerated clients.

MJE emphasizes two-generational services; programs for mothers, grandmothers, teen mothers as well as youth. In our community grandmothers are raising children and teen mothers are seeking to complete school and find a career path.

MJE is seeking a highly motivated, human services oriented professional to serve as the Director of Youth Programs. Reporting to the Chief of Programs, the Director of Youth Programs will be responsible for the operational success of Mothers for Justice and Equality, ensuring seamless team management and development, program delivery, and quality control and evaluation. In this newly established role, the Director of Youth Programs will manage a growing staff.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership:

  • Cultivate existing relationships with vendors with the goal of ensuring sufficient space and resources, and access to services for Youth Program.
  • Establish, maintain and profession working relationships with community agencies, and federal, state, and local agencies to ensure a steady flow of eligible clients to program(s) for Youth Programs.
  • Develop new partnerships and relationships with organizations and individuals who align with the mission of the organization for Youth Programs.
  • Develop and implement strategies that will maximize the synergies among program areas for Youth Programs.
  • Provide oversight and leadership in program delivery and Youth Programs.

Team Management and Development:

  • Supervises, coach and mentor program staff for Youth Programs.
  • Develop and implement a system to evaluate the skill, experience, and professional development needs of all staff for Youth Programs.
  • Implement a professional development program to address employee experience and skill gaps for Youth Programs.
  • Work with staff to develop objective performance measurements across all sites, to ensure consistent, high-quality evaluation and goal setting for all employees for Youth Programs.
  • Instill a sense of accountability among team members by modeling tight oversight of individual and organization performance standards for Youth Programs.
  • Recruit, hire, and oversee training and orientation of all staff members for Youth Programs.

Program Operational Management:

  • Responsible for program reporting, collecting data, maintaining and establishing systems to ensure organization is able to gather and properly report data for Youth Programs.
  • Maintaining and ensuring CRM systems are being utilized properly for Youth Programs.
  • Provide oversight to program enrollment and client outcomes for Youth Programs.
  • Oversee risk management and participate in crisis resolution. Review, approve and process critical incident reports to Quality Management and appropriate staff for Youth Programs.
  • Responsible for ensuring up to date client files and program files for Youth Programs.

Case Management:

  • Provide Case Management support to youths in need
  • Provide oversight to Case Managers

Qualifications

This is an extraordinary opportunity for an individual with team management experience to grow and further develop a proven program. The successful candidate will lead programs, partner with the ED and work collaboratively with a high-performance management team.

Specific requirements include:

  • Masters Degree in Social Work, Human Services and/or Education preferred
  • At least 3 - 5 years of experience with three of those in a team management role
  • Demonstrated success developing and evaluating program models, and selecting and successfully operationalizing innovative programs
  • Proficient in using technology as a management reporting tool and experience working with information technology staff to develop and implement program evaluation systems
  • Strong project management skills managing complex, multifaceted projects resulting in measurable successes and program growth
  • Experience having worked with a high-performance, collaborative, constructive peer group
  • Strength in hiring, recruiting, managing, developing, coaching, and retaining individuals and teams, empowering them to elevate their levels of responsibility, span-of-control and performance
  • Deep understanding of human resources, employee performance improvement plans, and corrective action policies
  • Demonstrated results in managing through complex systems and proven experience negotiating win-win agreements
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with exceptional attention to details
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to and passion for Mothers for Justice and Equality mission
