HSE Social Inclusion – Addiction Service’s primary responsibility is to improve the health outcomes for persons with addiction issues, homeless, refugees, asylum seekers, traveller and Roma communities. The largest direct service that is provided at present is the provision of services (primarily methadone maintenance treatment) for individuals with a heroin addiction.
The population of the area is approximately 220,000, with approximately 1,500 patients attending HSE treatment centres. There are a further 700 patients attending primary care services in the area.
Addiction Services Community provides a specialist service for adults in Community Healthcare Organisation – Dublin North City and County, with substances misuse issues.
All HSE direct services are delivered with and through multi disciplinary teams, providing a wide range of psycho social interventions to service users.
The HSE also funds in the region of 100 agencies in the Community Health Organisation Dublin North City and County who also deliver services to those who misuse substances and their families. The HSE needs to ensure robust arrangements are in place between the organisation and its funded agencies to ensure services are delivered in line with HSE policy and best practice.
