Education: Bachelor’s Degree
Qualifications:
- North Dakota license in elementary or secondary education with EL endorsement. Candidates without an EL endorsement but eager to meet the EL Teacher Education Endorsement requirements are encouraged to apply.
- Applicants with a valid North Dakota teaching license in early childhood, elementary, middle or secondary majors can apply if willing to apply for an EL endorsement program of study which requires the applicant to earn 16 credits. - Ability to work with a variety of people and situations.
- Ability to manage and coordinate.
- Experience working with multicultural students preferred.
Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Assists with the enrollment of new refugee and/or immigrant students.
- Provides direct instruction for EL students.
- Completes language proficiency assessments and assists with accommodations with district assessments.
- Develops an Individual Language Plan (ILP) in cooperation with classroom teachers and principals for Limited English Proficient (LEP) students.
- Coordinates instruction and student needs with classroom teachers.
- Provides training for paraprofessionals and classroom teachers on appropriate EL instructional strategies for LEP Students.
- Provides input and attends meetings concerning LEP students.
- Monitors LEP student's grades and attendance.
- Maintains EL student records
- Other duties as assigned.
Work Environment and Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; occasionally walk and stand. The ability to hear and see in order to communicate effectively as well as communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; Maintain effective audio/visual discrimination and perception to the degree necessary for the successful performance of assigned duties; Maintain mental capacity, allowing for effective interaction and communication with others.
Evaluation: By the Principal at least twice each year in the first three years of service (December 15 & April 15), and at least once each year thereafter (April 15).
External applicants are allowed to bring in up to 11 years of teaching experience.
