Job description
- Prepare, provide guidance, or assist in preparing and developing the engineering deliverables for electric distribution projects - including line routing, structure selection & design, plan & profile drawings, hardware & conductor selection, equipment & construction specifications, and all associated calculations.
- Work closely with other engineering and design team members to coordinate overall design package and requirements.
- Handle multiple projects and provide a detailed design package that complies with applicable engineering design standards and all safety codes.
- Developing technical specifications, provide direction and guidance to drafters and designers, direct the flow of drafting and designer duties, ensure design schedules are met, including regularly providing project status updates to project engineer.
- Provide engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis, and resolution of problems.
- Provide effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring of work activities.
- Provide thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and sketches.
- Provide continuous improvement of job-related, engineering, technical and professional knowledge, skills, and performance.
Education & Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science of Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution of higher learning.
- Minimum of 5 -15 years of tangible experience as a practicing engineer.
- Proficient in engineering theories and principles.
- Proficient in practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations, and preparing and presenting recommendations.
- Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Detailed knowledge of overhead distribution design using RUS and NESC code requirements using distribution & structure design software (PLSCADD, PLS-Pole, Sag10, AutoCAD, etc.) is required.
- Detailed knowledge of underground distribution design using RUS, NESC and other relevant code requirements.
- Detailed knowledge of distribution equipment and sizing of equipment is required.
- BSEE is preferred.
- Registered Professional Engineer, but not required.
- Proficient in principles of project management.
- Experience in the utility industry.
