Shift Requirements
1st Shift (4:30 AM - 1:30 PM, includes overtime)
2nd shift (1:30 PM - 10:00 PM, includes overtime)
Position Summary
Our Maintenance Mechanics keep our facility safe, reliable and efficient. Menasha’s Fontana, CA site is a light industrial manufacturing and warehouse operation. Maintenance Mechanics will diagnose, troubleshoot and repair site equipment (including, but not limited to) assembly line belted conveyors, cartoners, shrink wrappers, gluing systems, powered roller and belted conveyors and other light industrial assembly equipment. Maintenance Mechanics provide repair and service to facility, forklift and other warehouse equipment and support contracted work with forklift, warehouse and other vendor partners.
Key Duties And Responsibilities
- Ensures operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements on engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines; following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications; troubleshooting malfunctions
- Works with production personnel to troubleshoot mechanical or electrical issues
- Works in conjunction with outside contractors and/or vendors as well as OEM’s to troubleshoot and make repairs to plant equipment
- Locates sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation; listening for problems; using precision measuring and testing instruments
- Wires and installs AC/DC motors, drives, racks and motion control equipment
- Electrical trouble shooting using the proper tools and PPE
- Controls downtime by performing routine preventive maintenance techniques
- Fabricates repair parts by using machine shop instrumentation and equipment
- Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs
- Uses computer system to document work and account for parts
- Communicates with the team using verbal, written or electronic communication including phone, email, radio, or other
- Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations
- Demonstrate commitment to quality and perform job duties in adherence to GMP guidelines
- Ensure operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements of all equipment
- Troubleshoot any issues of mechanical devices, correct issues as necessary to maintain productivity/quality standards
- Control downtime by communicating with all departments
- Assist in the setup and tear down of production lines
- Be actively involved in Continuous Improvement
- Determine changes in dimensional requirements of parts, fabricate parts when needed, adjust functional parts of devices and control instruments
- Maintain equipment, parts and supplies inventories; conserve resources when able
- Responsible for facility maintenance
- Prepare maintenance reports, document and communicate actions, irregularities and continuing needs
- Work in a safe and efficient manner using all personal protective, safety equipment and devices that are required, and comply with company safety policies and procedures
- Perform other duties as assigned by management/supervisors
Education Required
High School Diploma or Equivalent
Education Desired
Technical Degree
Work Experience Required
- Prior technical experience
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in maintenance
- Experience in packaging maintenance required
Knowledge, Skills, Or Abilities Desired
- Programming knowledge in Ladder Logic is a must
- Knowledge with VideoJet equipment is highly desired
- Knowledge with VFDs (variable frequency drives) is a must
- Knowledge with electrical nomadic systems highly desired
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair balers is required
- Ability to read and understand machine part lists, preventative maintenance manuals, schematics and blueprints
- Proficient computer skills including the ability to navigate and perform needed duties on CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System)
- Ability to use rules, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments
- Ability to operate equipment including machines, alignment tools, high lifts, forklifts, boom lifts, scissors lifts, etc.
- Knowledge of AC/DC circuits, motors and drives, PLC, and instrumentation and process controls
- Safety sensitive position – ability to work in a constant state of alertness and a safe manner
- Ability to work overtime and weekends as required based upon the needs of the business
- Ability to work on a rotating shift as needed
- Ability to effectively work in teams
- Ability to work in a production-based environment with moving equipment and people
- Ability to interact and communicate effectively with a wide variety of roles
- Must have basic math, reading, and communication skills
- Ability to read, comprehend and, where necessary, complete: blueprints, electrical schematics, operating and maintenance manuals, work orders, repair parts requests
- Ability to operate and understand measuring equipment such as: standard or metric tape measure, micrometer, caliper, scale, VOM (Volt/Ohm Meter)
- Advanced knowledge of machine operations and mechanical functions
- Ability to disassemble, repair, and troubleshoot plant machines
- Ability to overhaul, rebuild and troubleshoot plant machines
- Ability to make simple parts or equipment and tools
