MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Implementing accelerated and differentiated curriculum in a classroom of exceptionally gifted students
• Working within Parkway as a resource for exceptionally gifted students and meeting their unique needs including meeting with students, participating in team meetings, meeting/communicating with parents, counselors, administrators, and meeting with gifted and regular education teachers
• Provide purposeful feedback to students
• Actively participate in Parkway’s professional development
• Assist students with time management and executive functioning
• Keep current in ELA and gifted research, and its implications for classroom practice
• Use a Problem-Based Learning (PBL) approach to have students solve complex real-world problems to promote students learning of concepts and principles
• Work with the gifted lead teacher, psychometrist, and gifted specialists in the district in screening and identification of students who may need exceptionally gifted services
• Collaboratively work with colleagues in the MOSAICS Academy to support the needs of exceptionally gifted students
  
  

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Possess certification in elementary education and gifted education.
• Experience in teaching English Language Arts elementary students.
• Knowledge of research regarding exceptionally gifted students and their unique needs.
• Ability to work effectively with others in a team environment.
• Experience developing creative lesson plans based on the use of authentic resources.
• Ability to develop effective working relationships with staff and community members.
• Knowledge and ability to utilize appropriate technology including but not limited to appropriate software and presentation devices.
• Ability to apply theory to practice.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
