The Endoscopy Tech is responsible for assisting with procedures in the Endoscopy unit, accountable for cleaning, disinfecting of equipment, assuring equipment is operating properly and readily available for procedures. Knowledge of equipment function is demonstrated and documented. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in the SMH Vision Mission and Values statement. Major Duties: Meets organizational expectations as defined by the Employee Standards of Performance, hospital and department policies and procedures, and the hospital’s strategic goals. Verbalizes a clear understanding of continuous quality improvement and customer satisfaction measures and actively participates in improvement initiatives. Appropriately sets up procedure room according to physician preference and patient procedure. Assists physician and RN with endoscopic procedures. Patient care as directed by the circulating RN. Assist in the transfer and positioning of endoscopy patients. Properly identifies patients prior to transport following established hospital guidelines, responsible for the safe transport of the Endoscopy patient from the other unit to the Endo Suite, providing the patient comfort and privacy at all times. Keeps siderails up at all times for patient safety, brakes engaged when not transporting. Assist patients to and from bathroom in Endo suite as needed. Restocks assigned endoscopy room with designated supplies. Completes all assigned tasks in an organized and thorough manner. Ensures procedure room is kept neat and clean throughout patient procedure. Transports specimens as directed. Disposes of trash and linen, exercising universal precautions. Transports non-narcotic medications from the Pharmacy Department to the Endoscopy Department, returns non-narcotic medications to the Pharmacy Department from the Endoscopy Department for credit. Assumes responsibility for proper leak testing, decontamination and cleaning of scopes and equipment. Follows proper procedure for leak testing of scopes. Demonstrates proper cleaning of scopes and equipment. Demonstrates proper decontaminating of scopes and equipment following policy and procedures. Checks equipment post decontamination and makes sure it is functioning properly and notifies proper employees if unable to correct malfunctioning. Maintains log books for Cidex solutions, scope tracking and scope usage. Demonstrates knowledge of equipment and its function. Understands and demonstrates appropriate set up of equipment. Handles equipment with care and realizes value of equipment. Accepts responsibility for keeping equipment properly functioning. Understands and follows safety standards of hazardous materials. Mixes Cidex solution using gloves, goggles and fluid barrier gown. Assures fans and ventilating system is functioning. Follows MSDS guidelines for splash or spills. Maintains biohazard labels on tubs of Cidex. Disposes of trash and linen, exercising universal precautions. Demonstrates knowledge of infection control policies. Handles sterile and decontaminated items appropriately. Makes sure all equipment is kept in Cidex solution for 45 minutes before removing and using in another procedure. Documents changing of disinfectant solution, documents checking solution with Cidex strips daily. Demonstrates cooperativeness and ability to learn new tasks. Actively participates in the daily morning report in Endoscopy and mandatory monthly meetings. Positive/effective team work with co-workers and supervisors, expresses new ideas for process improvements. Shows a high interest in learning new tasks. Demonstrates excellent understanding of job assignment. Complies with unit attendance requirements, unit meetings, in-services, policies, procedures, dress code, etc. CBLS net learning and Mandatory Core Curriculum. Meets staffing needs with flexibility, reassigned as needed. Available to take call with appropriate response time of (30 minutes). Demonstrates effective customer relation skills, promotes a positive work environment and contributes to the overall team effort. Provides professional, efficient and courteous service to the customers. Promotes a caring and compassionate work environment. Responds appropriately to patient/physician complaints. Maintains effective working rapport with co-workers, physicians, patients, family and other hospital employees. Accepts constructive criticism in a positive manner. Demonstrates respect for authority, discusses problems and follows chain of command. Maintains confidentiality of all pertinent patient care information to assure patient’s rights are protected. Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure smooth operation of the organization. Education/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Available to take call with appropriate response time of (30 minutes). Preferred knowledge of cleaning/disinfecting of medical equipment, medical terminology and good communication skills. High School Graduate. Previous LPN, Surgical Tech or Endoscopy Tech. Licensure/Certification: CPR
