Job Summary
The position is responsible for the day to day implementation and administration of basic and more complex customer assistance programs designed to help low-income, elderly, disabled, and other special needs customers of DESC. This position works under general supervision to assist elderly, special needs, and income eligible customers’ secure aid and energy assistance needed to pay their utility bills. Directs face to face, oral and written contact with local, state and federal government agencies such as Department of Social Services, community action agencies, medical providers and suppliers, non-profit agencies, and various other community resources, and be responsible for establishing and maintaining a network of contacts within the community to meet customer needs. Performs daily customer contact by phone and in person, to include minimal driving to various locations within DESC’s territory to complete customer home visits to explain and administer DESC customer assistance programs, community resources available for assistance, and DESC value added services (such as: budget billing, payment arrangements, self-serve options, and energy saving tips). This position will also require participating in community outreach activities indoors and outdoors. This position will be responsible for providing sound, accurate, timely, empathetic and cost-effective business solutions to achieve successful results. Considered essential and has an active role assisting with White Cross customer calls and outage orders during emergency and business recovery efforts during times of system failure and/or natural disasters.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
The knowledge, skills, abilities and experiences that are required for entry into this job include the following:
- 5+ years; experience in customer service or related field
- Must have strong knowledge and skills to assist customers with complex customer assistance programs designed to help low-income, elderly, disabled, and other special needs customers.
- Excellent customer service, interpersonal, and communications skills in person, by phone and in writing.
- Ability to travel to customer homes to conduct face to face meetings. (minimal travel)
Education Requirements
Required Degree (equivalency not accepted in lieu of required degree):
Completion of High School or equivalent
Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description
Valid Driver’s License with safe driving record
