Job description
This position is a temporary, part-time position within the Engineering Division of the Public Works Department of the City of Pueblo, Colorado. This is a non-exempt position limited to 1300 hours annually. The incumbent will be responsible for performing a variety of engineering design and field surveying duties under the mentorship and supervision of full-time engineering staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Assists with construction project contract documents- Assists with construction surveying and staking
- Requests utility maps for construction projects
- Preliminary design and scope of work development for construction projects
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The physical standard the incumbent must be able meet in order to perform the essential job duties with or without a reasonable accommodation include but are not limited to:
- Lifting up to 30 pounds
- Walking and standing for extended time periods
- Position requires the ability to input large amounts of data using repetitive motion on a frequent and prolonged basis
- Ability to work in both indoor office and outdoor field environments to include construction job sites, undeveloped land, and open space areas with possible exposure to a variety of environmental conditions including high or low temperatures, rain, wind, dust, and other weather phenomena
This position requires:
Knowledge of and ability to work with Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software (e.g., Autodesk products)- Knowledge of and ability to work with spreadsheets, word processing, and databases such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access
- Skill and ability to learn civil engineering software
- Ability to communication effectively both verbally and in writing
- Ability to complete forms and keep accurate records
- Ability to perform all job duties in a safe manner
In addition to the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed above, the position requires:
- Must be enrolled in or have already graduated from an Undergraduate or Graduate degree-seeking program of study with major course work in engineering, engineering technology, or a related field
- Must have completed a minimum of 12 credits of study towards academic major with a minimum 3.0 GPA
- Must be legally eligible to work in the United States

City of Pueblo Temporary and Seasonal Employee Sick Leave Benefits
Beginning January 1, 2021, all employers in Colorado are required to provide paid sick leave to employees under the Healthy Families and Workplaces Act (“HFWA”). Said leave is accrued at one hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked, up to a maximum of 48 hours.
Per the Act, leave may be used for any of the following reasons:
- The employee has a mental or physical illness, injury, or health condition; needs a medical diagnosis, care, or treatment related to such illness, injury, or condition; or needs to obtain preventive medical care.
- The employee needs to care for a family member who has a mental or physical illness, injury, or health condition; needs a medical diagnosis, care, or treatment related to such illness, injury, or condition; or needs to obtain preventive medical care.
- The employee or family member has been the victim of domestic abuse, sexual assault, or harassment and needs to be absent from work for purposes related to such crime; or
- A public official has ordered the closure of the school or place of care of the employee's child or of the employee's place of business due to a public health emergency, necessitating the employee's absence from work.
Consistent with the HWFA, part-time temporary and seasonal employees of the City shall not carry forward more than forty-eight (48) hours of unused sick leave from one year to the next.
