Salary Range: $64,270-$112,472 Salary Grade: NC20
The Division 2 Corridor Development Engineer will serve as a liaison between NCDOT and Metropolitan Planning Organizations and Rural Planning Organizations, using their knowledge of NCDOT funding along with the needs defined in long-range transportation plans to formulate strategies for funding needed projects.
The Division 2 Corridor Development Engineer will work with Planning Organizations to analyze long-range transportation plans that have been developed to determine which of the projects included in the plans are most suitable for submission into the Strategic Transportation Investments (STI) Prioritization system. The Division 2 Corridor Development Engineer will conduct complex engineering studies as required to fully assess and prioritize the transportation improvements recommended in the long-range transportation plan. This may include developing design concepts and performing traffic engineering analysis. These engineering studies will determine the type of improvements needed, scope of work required, estimated cost, likelihood of securing funding, and often include a preliminary analysis of the environmental impacts associated with any proposed projects.
The Division 2 Corridor Development Engineer will also work with the Planning Organizations to determine suitable candidate projects to be submitted for consideration for funding from the various funding sources outside of the STI Prioritization system, such as the newly established Mobility, Economic Development, and Small Construction funds.
This position reports to the Corridor Development Unit but is located in the Division 2 office at 2815 Rouse Road Extension, Kinston, NC 28504. There will be occasional travel to Raleigh.

Thorough knowledge of civil engineering principles and practices pertaining to the planning, design, and operation of transportation infrastructure.- Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Excel and ArcGIS.
- Experience explaining ideas and concepts to elected officials, citizens, and engineers.
- Working knowledge of transportation planning activities at the Federal, State, and local levels.
- Knowledge of NCDOT’s strategic process of prioritizing transportation improvement investment activities.
Additional Expectations:
- Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of North Carolina is preferred.
- Ability to attain competency in SAP-based financial and project management tools and applications.
Bachelor s degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualification May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
