Engineer - Rotation (PAS)
Overview:
The scope of the Engineering Rotation program is to enable engineers to develop knowledge, new skills, and a broader understanding of our operations in the different departments. The engineering rotation program. At the conclusion of the rotation, the Engineer and the Marotta management team will determine where their skills and experiences can best fit within the organization for future assignment.
In the Assembly & Test role, the Engineer is responsible for performing the tasks and training required for production , (including all aspects of assembly, testing, setup, debugging and paperwork completion to the internal and external requirements of the product). The engineer shall receive training and interface with experience technicians, production engineers and design engineers and production support staff.
In the Design and test equipment Engineer role, the Engineer is responsible for work product to meet the customer's requirements (including all design, functional, material, and test requirements from the customer's component and sub-tier specifications) as well as the cost targets established during the proposal stage. The engineer shall enlist the help of other disciplines when necessary, such as manufacturing, other engineering disciplines, and Quality. The design and Test Equipment will be performed at different intervals of the rotation.
In the Production Engineer role, the Engineer is responsible for the technical management, maintenance, and development of new and existing production lines. This individual supports the objectives of Marotta Controls relative to manufacturing and operational goals. In this role the Engineer will develop, implement, and maintain methods, operation sequences, test equipment, and processes that continually ensure that equipment capacity will meet customer demand. The Engineer will also implement process improvements based on demonstrated improved yield results and participate in defect reduction activities and lean initiatives.
Minimum Required Qualifications:
- B.S. Engineering is required
- 0-5 years’ experience in mechanical, electrical, software or applicable systems engineering
- Excellent verbal/written communication skills required for multi-faceted interactions with all levels of personnel within the organization, as well as all outside agents, including but not limited to, vendors, suppliers, customers, potential job candidates, etc.
- Highly computer literate, with MS Office/PC expertise, and demonstrated experience with applicable systems, programs, equipment, etc.
- Must be a US Citizen.
Essential or Primary / Key Responsibilities:
Development Lab and Test Equipment Engineering (~3 months)
- Create development testing requirements, development test instructions, and release of drawings for development hardware
- Coordinate the creation of a preliminary bill of material in the business system and verify its accuracy
- Maintain ongoing surveillance of customer-driven changes, with written notification to Contracts Administrator or Program Manager, including program impact assessment
Design Engineering (3 months)
- Create new designs for development projects
- Ensure accuracy of all drawings/documents on the project.
- Perform analysis on new designs including tolerance stack-ups
- Communicate technical and schedule problems, in a timely manner, to Engineering Manager / Director, Contracts Administrator, and Program Manager when applicable
- Manage all duties per ISO 9000: Procedure 4.1 Design Control
Production Engineering (~4 months)
- Design new systems and processes for the introduction of new products or the improvement of existing products
- Design efficient/safe tools and fixtures required to support operations
- Create, maintain, and refine detailed mfg. documentation (e.g., procedures, Operation Sheets, Routers, Set-up/Tooling sheets, etc.) through effective selection of manufacturing methods (inclusive of inspection point selection)
- Investigate, assess, and resolve production issues effectively
- Contribute to the ability of the Operations function to meet intended design requirements, by understanding and properly utilizing manufacturing tools and equipment
- Apply Lean Manufacturing principles to tool/fixture design, material selection, facility layout plans, cost estimates, DFM concepts, GT&D practices, machine shop documentation (oper./tooling sheets, routers, etc.), root cause investigations, trouble shooting, performance metrics and machine shop operational activities
- Perform all practices and activities related toProduction Engineering. in a manner which supports commonality, standardization (where applicable), First Past Yield and utilization of safe/best industry practices
Assembly & Test (~2 months)
- Primarily ensure that products perform their proposed functions in a satisfactory manner
- Complete assigned jobs performing assembly, test set-up and test without supervision
- Read, interpret, follow, and advise on documents (i.e., procedures, schematics/technical drawings, etc.) and use necessary measuring devices/equipment to confirm tooling/fixturing geometries and dimensions
- Ensure all work is conducted in accordance with approved technical data, customer specifications and regulatory requirements including mil-specs
- Setup and use electronic instruments, load testing devices, microscopes, various measuring instruments
- Setup and operate tools required for assembly including, but not limited to, standard hand tools, load testing devices, micrometers, depth mics, calipers, and microscopes
- Setup and operate equipment required for testing including, but not limited to, multimeters, ohmmeters, voltmeters, pressure, gauges and transducers, data recorders, load cells, and flow meters
- Conduct end-of-line functional testing on products and record results
- Install components using the required tooling
- Maintain and ensure accurate parts and part count for each job
- Independently identify causes for test failures, rework and advise management of proposed corrective action
- Contribute to a positive, cooperative, and safe work environment through effective communication at all levels of the Marotta organization
- Participate in root cause investigations, troubleshooting activities (as required), continuous improvement initiatives/programs, etc.
Additional Duties / Responsibilities:
- Bring initiatives and activities to closure in a timely manner through effective interaction with individuals, both internal and external to the Marotta organization (as required).
- Abide by all safety, quality, housekeeping, and company policies/procedures to ensure compliance to all regulatory and internal system requirements.
- Contribute to a positive and cooperative work environment through effective communication at all levels internal and external to the organization
- Actively participate in team meetings, improvement initiatives/programs, etc. and support actions to drive company initiatives/goals
- Assist in the training of personnel to perform required technical tasks (as directed)
- Consistently demonstrate commitment to company values
- Keep management informed of area activities and of any significant problems.
- Assume responsibility for related duties as required or assigned.
- Ensure that work area is clean, secure, and well maintained.
- Complete special projects and miscellaneous assignments as required.
Work Environment:
- This job interacts both in a professional office environment and a manufacturing/machine shop environment. This role uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines, as well as environments inclusive of the appropriate eye, hearing, and foot protection (as required). This role uses standard and advanced inspection equipment such as micrometers, microscopes, vision systems, CMMs, surface measurement instruments and standard gauges.
- This is a full-time position, work schedule variation depending upon rotation area
- Some travel is required for this position (5-10%)
Physical Requirements:
- While performing the duties of this job, the Engineer is regularly required to see, talk, and hear.
- The Engineer is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, and to use hands to finger, handle or feel.
- The Engineer is frequently required to sit at length, stand, walk, and move about the facility.
- The Engineer may be required to lift and/or move items weighing up to 20 pounds.
This position supports both our Montville and Parsippany NJ office locations as required.
