Job description
Reporting to the Executive Director, ELI, the Associate Academic Director, ELI is responsible for the day-to-day academic operations of the ELI.
This position also serves as the primary liaison with the ISSO office for the Global Pathways program.
- Serves as a liaison between Global Pathways (GP) and the English Language Institute (ELI).
- Involved with policy and curriculum discussions, alignment of GP and ELI courses, along with fostering a positive flow of communication. Reviews and revises academic policies and procedures as program develops.
- Oversee technology-driven instruction programs and ensure that instructors are able to use all available technology.
- Resolves student and instructor issues for GP program.
- Responsible for training and onboarding for newly-hired instructors for the ELI Program.
- Leads a minimum of six faculty meetings per academic year, facilitating instructor course evaluations,
- In conjunction with the Executive Director and Director, International Special Programs, interview and hire part-time instructors and full-time staff instructors for the ELI campuses.
- Observe and evaluate ELI instructors on a regular basis, in accordance with the ELI’s policies.
- Support all instructors through ongoing professional development training, including ensuring delivery of at least two professional development workshops (PDWs) a year and instructors’ attendance at least one PDW a year.
- Maintain ELI Faculty Classes community page. Updates and distribute syllabi templates each semester.
- Communicates all academic standards, policies, procedures, deadlines and academic reporting instructions to part-time instructors.
- Oversees all academic reporting by instructors, including alerts, notifications, assessment data files, final grades, grade appeals, grade change forms. Review Early Alerts, Grades, Progression status and Academic standing for all students.
- Ensure accurate academic scheduling of courses and class assignments for all instructors, liaising with Academic Scheduling and under the supervision of the Executive Director. Arrange substitutes or alternate teaching arrangements (such as teaching or rescheduling the class) when instructors are unable to teach. Serve as academic point person for any unscheduled instructor or student issues/needs.
- Administer and record placement tests, using tests approved by the Executive Director. Place and advise new students based on proficiency and academic goals, accurately recording all relevant information, in a timely manner. Liaise with the full-time instructor to ensure that all placement testing and advisement is completed and recorded in a timely manner.
- Develop and lead Academic sessions of new student Orientation.
- Coordinate all communication and record-keeping in the Academic Probation and Dismissal program. Disseminate information and applications for ELI Pre-Academic Programs.
- Counsel/advise/monitor ELI students when necessary regarding ELI academic work and attendance. Contact, monitor, and follow-up with at-risk students. Report attendance issues to a Designated School Official (DSO) in accordance with ELI policies and SEVIS regulations for F1-visa students. Ensure that all students are being assessed consistently and effectively in accordance with curriculum guidelines approved by the Executive Director. Regularly review, evaluate, and revise ELI Curriculum as program develops and in accordance with a formal curriculum review process, under the supervision of the Executive Director.
- Coordinate and collect student evaluations of courses and instructors after each course, using online evaluation forms approved by the Executive Director.
- Manage curriculum of ELI and Global Pathways program, including course syllabi, course materials, student learning outcomes, and assessments. Review, select and order textbooks for all ELI and Global Pathways courses. Organize desk copies with publishers and instructors. Participate in Curriculum Committee (update/revise curriculum, and method of placement and assessment, work on special curriculum projects as they arise), under the supervision of the Executive Director.
- Develop strategies for standardization across the academic programming, including delivery, outcomes, assessment, rubrics and progression.
- Create and implement custom curricula for special short-term cohorts and TESOL training programs, in conjunction with Assistant Director, Custom Programs and the direction of the Director, International Special Programs.
- Work with Executive Director to review, revise, monitor and implement all academic policies and procedures of the ELI and ensure that the policies are communicated and followed by the part time staff and students. This includes attendance policies, progression, makeups, homework and assessment policies, probation/dismissal, electronic devices, grievances, etc. Update the Student and Instructor Handbooks regularly and as needed. Ensure all English Language Institute and Pace University’s policies are clearly communicated to students and instructors and that those instructors and students follow those policies.
- Assist Assistant Director, Custom Programs and Director, International Special Programs with academic issues, including hiring and observing teachers and curriculum development for English language classes, as needed.
- Performs other such duties as assigned from time to time.
Recruit, hire, and supervise 15-30 part-time instructors and one full-time staff instructor.
Must have:
- Master’s degree in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or related field required; experienced and qualified TESOL professional.
- At least three years experience teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) or English as a Foreign Language (EFL) in a higher education setting or teaching college-bound ESL students required.
- At least two years administrative experience in a university-level Intensive English program preferred.
- Native fluency in English and excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Familiarity with Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher preferred.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $70,000.00 - $78,000.00 per year
