Job description
As an Enterprise Architect you will provide technological guidance in the development of enterprise architecture components and services, new applications, the implementation of new software products and technologies, and the ongoing maintenance and support of the technology infrastructure in a way that supports corporate, business unit, and Information Technology principles, strategies, guidelines, and rules.
Principal Accountabilities
- Provide technical leadership in the design and development of enterprise architecture services and components.
- Provides direction to the IT development groups on support of current business application needs with currently supported technologies. Identifies changes or additions needed to the current architecture to best support current and future business application needs.
- Participate in the development and maintenance of overall architecture principles and strategies.
- For business critical technology platforms: support and maintain architecture guidelines, rules, models, and presentation standards.
- Participate in the analysis and design of multi-platform system architectures.
- Evaluate new and emerging technologies and provide recommendations of applicability and appropriateness for inclusion in the standard architecture.
- Participate in the introduction and integration of multiple new technologies on all system platforms.
- Conduct architectural reviews on the largest and most complex systems providing critical technical analysis.
- Responsible for working with all development groups ensuring that:
- a common toolset is used in all phases of the development process
- a transition out of old tools as they are replaced
- common system utilities, application modules and architecture components are available and utilized
- Design and conduct ongoing education of the IT development staff in the use of architecture utilities, modules, components, and processes.
- Responsible for working with all groups within IT to implement architecture checkpoints in existing processes.
Education
4-yr College Degree required in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering or related field
Nature & Scope
The incumbent interacts with business department and IT development groups to develop and maintain an understanding of how technology is used in the business systems and to maintain a good understanding of the future business direction.
For multiple platforms, the incumbent has a broad knowledge of all standard hardware and a software technology employed and maintains expertise on trends and future use of current programming languages, tools, and system architectures.
The incumbent participates in the development of guiding architectural principles and strategies and applies these to defining guidelines, rules, and standards to guide enterprise architectural decisions.
The incumbent has strong a conceptual understanding of information technology. He/She utilizes that expertise and experience to make key technical recommendations on systems and technologies taking into account the current infrastructure and existing/emerging technologies.
With his/her technical expertise and knowledge of development and implementation methodologies, the incumbent leads architectural reviews of applications of varying complexity.
The incumbent must have and use good communication skills as he/she will work with the development staff to ensure that a standard toolset is used on each development platform, and that the standard system utilities, application modules, and architectural components are created and used. The incumbent must also work with others in IT and in other departments to ensure that architectural processes are being followed and that architectural checkpoints are integrated into existing processes.
The incumbent is able to work with several development and technical infrastructure projects concurrently. He/She possesses good planning, conceptual, and analytical abilities and has knowledge of computer architectures and the effective use of all available computer and network facilities to support the make-up and inter-relationships of application systems.
The incumbent will usually possess 5+ years of experience in multiple areas of applications development, information technology operations, or information technology architecture. He/she will have an expert level knowledge of at least one system infrastructure platform employed by IT and the proven ability to become expert on all platforms.
