The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) is looking to hire an Environmental Analyst 2 within the Emergency Response and Spill Prevention Division (ERSPD).

POSITION DETAILS
This position is responsible for completing environmental field work and office-based work related to assignments within the Emergency Response and Spill Prevention Division (ERSPD). The posting is for a current vacancy though may be used to address future division vacancies.
This Environmental Analyst 2 position helps fulfill the critical mission of protection of public health and safety through responsibilities including environmental data collection and analyses. Duties of this position may include, but are not limited to:
- Conducting on-site environmental assessments and inspections;
- Coordinating field activities of other staff and contractors;
- Conducting sampling of water, soil, and hazardous substances;
- Independently preparing reports and correspondence;
- Independently reviewing analytical results of environmental samples or other data;
- Reviewing or preparing site maps and plans, using Geographic Information System maps, Map Viewers, and dashboards;
- Developing or reviewing work plans that assess and recommend environmental remediation;
- Reviewing interagency coordination planning platforms related to oil and chemical inventory management and oil and chemical releases;
- Implementing environmental regulatory programs;
- Coordinating with others within the agency and with local, regional, state, and federal environmental partner agencies;
- Adhering to health and safety requirements;
- Performing related duties as required.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection this class is accountable for independently performing a full range of tasks in the technical review and analysis of environmental program data and issues within the environmental field, developing recommendations on courses of action and assisting with the implementation of policy and program decisions.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED
1. College training in a scientific or technical discipline related to the environmental field including but not limited to the biological, earth, or physical sciences; environmental planning; environmental law; economics; leisure services; geographic information systems; geography with a concentration in geographic information systems; natural sciences; or natural resources may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of four (4) years for a Bachelor's degree.
2. A Master's degree in a scientific or technical discipline related to the environmental field including but not limited to the biological, earth, or physical sciences; environmental planning; environmental law; economics; leisure services; geographic information systems; geography with a concentration in geographic information systems; natural sciences; or natural resources may be substituted for five (5) years of the General Experience.
Note: Education may only be substituted for a total of five (5) years.
3. For State Employees one (1) year of experience as a Environmental Analyst 1 may be substituted for the General Experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience independently preparing or reviewing written summaries or reports of the environmental conditions of contaminated properties;
- Experience communicating environmental concepts to stakeholders, including the public, using summary reports, graphics, charts, and dashboards;
- Experience independently conducting environmental field work involving collection of soil and water samples, adhering to health and safety requirements and sample chain of custody protocols;
- Experience with Microsoft software, including Excel;
- Experience in prioritizing and tracking projects to meet deadlines.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
2. Incumbents in this class may be required to possess and retain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s license.
