I. Position Description

The purpose of this position is to manage all environmental equipment and personnel to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local air quality, water quality and hazardous waste regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Inspects and tours facility to detect existing or potential environmental, safety, and health hazards.
  • Enforces compliance with Permit Requirements and Internal Standards.
  • Track and trend daily performance within the Environmental Department.
  • Recommends actions to improve overall performance.
  • Establishes Daily Work lists and oversees completion of all daily activities.
  • Participates in all plant environmental audits and inspections.
  • Reviews compliance records and manages record keeping.
  • Manage and oversee Environmental projects within the facility.
  • Represents the Company at various state and local events.
  • Advises management on regulatory issues and makes recommendations for compliance.
  • Maintains environmental staff by recruiting, selecting, training, and scheduling its employees.
  • Manages air sampling and monitoring programs at the facility.
  • Complies with all environmental, health, safety, and housekeeping programs.
  • Other duties as assigned or deemed necessary.

II. Qualifications

A. PRE-HIRE REQUIREMENTS

  • BA/BS degree in chemical or environmental engineering preferred or equivalent experience.
  • Five years’ experience with Air Pollution Control Equipment, Water Treatment Plants and/or Environmental regulations.
  • Knowledge of Hazardous Waste Regulations.
  • Leadership Experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal communications skills; written and verbal.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • Practical application of ISO 14001 EMS

B. POST-HIRE TRAINING

  • Must obtain Class “C” Wastewater Treatment Operator Certificate within two years from date in position.
  • Environmental training applicable to the job.
  • Safety training for applicable equipment.
  • Job instructional training.
  • Quality system familiarization.
  • ISO 14001 Internal Auditor, EMS objectives and targets, plant significant impacts.
  • Significant environmental air aspects and impacts.
  • ISO 45001 Awareness, Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment and Risk Control.

III. Physical Requirements & Work Environment

A. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

B. WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is regularly exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock. The employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment.

  • If duties require entry to an arsenic or cadmium-controlled area, appropriate respiratory protection must be worn.
