VHB is hiring an Environmental Planner to join our South Burlington, VT office, and support a wide variety of projects across our environmental planning practice. VHB is seeking a professional who has interest and experience in preparing environmental review documentation in accordance with the federal-level National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and state-level Act 250 land use and development law, as well as other environmental studies for a diverse set of clients.
VHB’s overall environmental planning team provides a wide range of integrated services such as environmental permitting, sustainability and resiliency planning, urban planning, comprehensive master planning, solid waste management, air quality and noise studies, natural resource management, water conservation and water quality projects, historic resource planning, and community engagement. We are looking for applicants that have an interest in our full range of environmental services.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with colleagues throughout VHB’s multidisciplinary practice, particularly with the VHB environmental planning team
- Work with a team of planners and engineers on NEPA, Act 250, and similar environmental reviews
- Prepare environmental reports, memoranda, permit applications, and other environmental documentation
- Use technical tools such as GIS and Microsoft Office
- Support public outreach and coordinate with clients
Skills and Abilities
- Self-motivated with attention to details and ability to think critically
- Must be able to work independently and as a part of project teams
- Excellent writing skills
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- Understanding of NEPA, environmental planning, and sustainability planning is a plus
- Familiarity with National Park Service NEPA guidance and Section 106 compliance is a plus
- Familiarity with technical analyses and tools
- Familiarity with Esri GIS software and mobile data collection using GPS is a plus
Qualifications
- 1-3 years of professional planning and/or compliance experience
- BA in Urban Planning, Environmental Studies, Preservation Planning, or related area of study relevant to specialization (e.g., Urban Design/Studies, Regional Planning, Sustainability Planning, Economics, Civil Engineering, Urban Transportation Planning)
