Environmental Specialist

The Environmental Specialist will be part of team working to achieve corporate environmental compliance excellence.

The Environmental Specialist will support implementation of environmental programs through completion of on-site reviews at our Business Units located throughout North America and Europe.

Global leader in material processing services for the aerospace, automotive and power generation industries seeks a talented individual to join our team.

Location: Remote – Travel (45-50%) is required to support 6 locations across the US.

Salary: $75,000 - $90,000 annual

Your Challenge:

80% of your challenge will be involving Environmental Compliance including:

  • Working with the facilities to ensure environmental compliance
  • Ensure Business Unit alignment with federal, state and local environmental regulations/standards under direction of the Corporate EH&S department
  • Provide functional support of air permitting, water discharge and hazardous material handling/disposal activities to comply with jurisdictional requirements
  • Evaluate work processes and practices, targeting continuous improvement and regulatory compliance
  • Consult with Business Unit managers on EPA compliance

20% of your challenge will be involving Health and Safety Compliance including:

  • Ensure Business Unit alignment with federal, state and local OHSA regulations/standards under direction of the Corporate EH&S department
  • Lead Business Unit Safety Committees to promote accident-free operations
  • Provide local safety training
  • Review near-miss and post-accident investigations to prevent recurrence

Your Expertise:

  • A technical degree in Environmental Management, Safety, Industrial Hygiene or related discipline or commensurate certifications or experience
  • 5+ years of practical experience that includes engagement with air, water and hazardous waste management programs for an SQG or LQG.

Background in coatings, finishing or chemical-related processes preferred

  • An ability to interpret federal, state and local regulations applicable to facility operations
  • Experience with Industrial Hygiene monitoring
  • Experience with OSHA Recordkeeping and Reporting
  • Excellent problem resolution, critical thinking, analytical and root cause analysis skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
  • The ability to work independently and efficiently
  • Ability to travel 45-50% of the time
