Stepping Stone Shelter for Women, Inc. is recruiting for a dynamic, community-minded individual to serve as its next Executive Director.

Stepping Stone has been serving La Porte County for 40 years and offers a team-oriented, client-centered work environment where you make a positive difference every day. Our Mission is to provide safety and healing for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault through emergency shelter, transitional housing, supportive recovery services, and caring advocacy. We are one of the largest, longest term domestic violence programs in Indiana.

The role of the Executive Director is to provide leadership to the organization which includes serving as a role model and champion for employees and clients, formulating a vision and strategic plan for the agency, conducting fundraising and donor development, overseeing outreach, working closely with community partners and vendors, and developing and overseeing the annual budget. The Executive Director is accountable for the overall programmatic and fiscal integrity of the organization within the framework and philosophy set by the Board of Directors.

Demonstrated strong leadership, communication skills, problem solving skills, and financial knowledge, including budgeting and grant writing, is required. Knowledge of La Porte County and its non-profit community is a plus. Experience in or knowledge of homeless shelter and domestic violence best practices is preferred.

The successful candidate will have a minimum of five years of leadership and management experience in a client-centered business or non-profit setting. A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and three years’ experience working or volunteering in the domestic violence field is preferred. The Director must successfully complete CORE 40 sexual assault training within six months of hire.
