4. Responsibilities
- Overall purpose of the position
The Executive Director will work closely with the Board of Directors to implement the Vision and Mission of Metro Ministries, Inc. and oversee the finances and fundraising, granting process, communications, and ministry outreach activities, in alignment with Board policies and the objectives of The UMC Indiana Conference. The Executive Director will represent Metro Ministries, Inc. on UMC District committees and Boards of other community organizations while fostering and maintaining relationships with churches and community organizations.
- Essential functions
1) Have a heart for ministry and the love of Christ.
2) Observe and implement Metro Ministries, Inc. governance policies and bylaws in performance of the essential functions of the Executive Director position.
3) Represent and interpret Metro Ministries, Inc. program of work through serving on the UMC Central District Operations Team and as a Central District Staff member. Engage with groups of other faith communities, and to the community-at-large to keep current with emerging ministry needs and resources. Serve on Boards of Directors of community or Metro Ministries partner centers as appropriate.
4) Work closely with the Board of Directors, prepare quarterly meeting agendas, financial reports and minutes, organize annual strategic planning meeting and provide Board development opportunities.
5) Assess needs of existing affiliated community centers, UMC ministries, and neighborhood organizations and bring action recommendations to the Board of Directors that will further the missional aims of the UMC Conference via Metro Ministries, Inc. programs.
6) “Grow” resources by supervising fundraising and volunteer programs.
a) Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with donors.
b) Support existing affiliated community centers and ministries related to Metro Ministries with fundraising resources including connecting tools such as MEO Tech Series, directly soliciting funding from funding resources, or directing a team to assist them in developing fundraising plans.
c) Establish awareness of Designated Endowment Fund opportunity for legacy giving.
7) Connect resources to ministry programs through the Metro Ministries, Inc. grant process or to other mission opportunities
8) Provide regular communications on the activities and interests of Metro Ministries, Inc. via multiple social media formats. Oversee the use of online media, printed materials, videos and other means.

1) Pursue professional development training
2) Schedule and prepare for meetings and events.
3) Provide educational presentations (e.g. grant process training, Lay Servants school, etc.)
- Workplace
1) Office space is currently located at St. Andrew UMC, 2560 Villa Avenue, Indianapolis, IN.
2) Administrative support services are minimal.
- Financial and Corporate Report Accountability
1) Oversee finances.
a) Interact with Board Treasurer for the development of the annual budget, grant awards, and unexpected expenses, and coordinate with external CPS and United Methodist Foundation of Indiana per GAAP.
b) Maintain financial records.
2) Complete and file corporate reports as required by local, state, and federal agencies.
- Qualifications required to carry out this position; knowledge, capabilities, and skills.
1) Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of experience in social services, ministry programming or related field.
2) Strong communication skills: interpersonal, writing, speaking, and social media
3) Administrative organization, time management, meeting/event scheduling, and computer skills
4) Familiarity with financial and budget operations.
5) Ability to travel throughout central Indiana.
6) Scheduling flexibility to accommodate evening and weekend activities.
7) Familiarity with the most recent edition of The Book of Discipline of The United Methodist Church.
