The New York City Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) invests in a network of community-based organizations and programs to alleviate the effects of poverty and to provide opportunities for New Yorkers and communities to flourish.
Under the direction of the Commissioner, the Senior advisor serves in a highly confidential advisory role. The success candidate of this position will be involved in sensitive matters requiring diplomacy with interfacing with executive level staff, elected public officials, representatives of the community, constituents and others. The success candidate of this position will be involved in sensitive matters requiring diplomacy with interfacing with executive level staff, elected public officials, representatives of the community, constituents and others. With an extensive knowledge of local government, the Senior Advisor will:
- Be responsible for tracking, analyzing, and providing advise on the full range of operational and policy issues
- Align and connect agency initiatives (SYEP, Summer Rising, SNL, Cure Violence) with data, trends, and the Mayor’s platform.
- Work on Mayoral initiatives and priorities; brief the Commissioner and staff on critical issues, respond to elected official’s requests, inquiries, and responds to requests from constituencies
- Proactively establish, develop and maintain strong client relationships through regular contact and providing timely, value-added information, advice and recommendations
- Advise the Commissioner on policy matters, as well as develop forward-looking frameworks to ensure that the agency achieves its goals, mission and mandates
- Collect, analyzes and compare data and trends; prepare reports including observations, conclusions and recommendations
- Coordinate meeting preparations with the Office of the Mayor and key stakeholders to provide information and serve as a liaison on projects and initiatives
- Ensure that the Commissioner and executive leadership, are briefed and updated in preparation for all meetings and that his activities are well planned and coordinated
- Support the Commissioner on special projects and opportunities that arise on an ad hoc basis, including the development of new partnerships, support for the Commissioner’s thought
- Advise Senior Leadership on processes and project management to set and maintain focus on key outcomes, including the planning and implementation of daily, weekly, monthly, and longer-
- Meets with staff to offer direction and to ensure adherence to stated project objectives;
- Work closely with senior management and their staff to address issues, assist with key initiatives and facilitate communication with the Commissioner and City Hall.
Minimum Qual Requirements
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and four (4) years of satisfactory, relevant, full-time, experience in community planning, community relations, development and organization including one (1) year in a supervisory, administrative, consultative, managerial or executive capacity; or
2. A satisfactory combination of education and experience equivalent to “ 1 ” above.However, all candidates must have one (1) year of specialized experience as described in “ 1 ” above.
