A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A WORKSHOP FACILITATOR
As a Workshop Facilitator, you deliver education in city jails based on a lesson plan provided to you. You closely follow the approved lesson plan and set clear objectives using a variety of materials, including handouts, workbooks, textbooks, web-based resources, and videos. Lesson session topics may include relapse prevention, anger management, cognitive behavior therapy, parenting, financial management, arts and crafts, creative writing, PTSD services, and more.
You present workshop activities in multiple learning modes using small-group facilitation techniques. You help learners apply all lessons to where they are today and where they see themselves in the future. Always prepared, you plan lessons in advance, hand appropriate assignments out to learners, and track their performances and progress. You complete session reports and write weekly case notes for each learner, highlighting reviewed topics, participation, and progress. WHAT IS REQUIRED TO BE A WORKSHOP FACILITATOR?
- Bachelor's degree in adult education, human relations, psychology, social work, or another related field
- Knowledge/experience in job development, human resources, or employer relations
- Experience in workforce development
- Knowledge of the rehabilitation field
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work full-time in a jail setting among incarcerated individuals
- Excellent facilitating skills
- Very strong command of information and awareness of your surroundings
- Ability to pass clearance from the Department of Corrections
