Fatigue & Damage Tolerance Engineers work all structural systems including Rotors, Controls, Drives, Airframe and Landing Gear. As a F&DT Engineer you will conduct fatigue and damage tolerance analyses and create the documentation of results for presentation to the FAA for Type Certification. You will also develop fatigue test requirements for metallic and composite component testing and follow the tests as the engineering representative in the labs. You will also conduct real-time monitoring of flight test loads in a ground control room in support of aircraft certification flights.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop fatigue test loads in accordance with FAA requirements for metallic and composite fatigue testing of aircraft dynamic components.
- Perform fatigue safe-life and damage tolerance analyses to establish component retirement times and inspection intervals.
- Real-time support of test flights monitoring loads and post-flight data reviews.
- Interface with structural analysis and design organizations, materials & processes, structural test laboratories, flight test, manufacturing, and civil certification authorities.
- Write and review technical reports.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering is required with a preference in Mechanical or Aerospace.
Master’s Degree in Engineering as described above is preferred.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Multiple levels of experience will be considered with at least 2 years general stress analysis, fatigue and/or fracture mechanics or damage tolerance analysis, or related field.
Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team.
Self-motivated and desire to grow and apply engineering skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of FAA rules 2X.571 and 2X.573 and associated AC material.
Experience with material and/or component fatigue testing.
Experience using AFGROW.
Experience using ENOVIA.
Experience using Bell analytical tools.
