JOB CLASSIFICATION: Non-exempt, Full-time, 12 months

RATE OF PAY: Grade 3

NUMBER OF HOURS PER WEEK: 40

LOCATION: Main Office

DUTIES: The Crisis Advocate is responsible for case management/assessment, advocacy and peer counseling for individuals and families experiencing domestic violence and sexual assault. Responsibilities include interviewing, gathering case information, following up with clients, maintaining files and performing data entry. She/He is responsible for providing peer counseling, helping clients set goals, documenting client interaction, providing limited transportation and offering case management. He/She will be responsible for providing coverage for the agency hotline, educating clients about dynamics of domestic violence and sexual assault and options/resources available, and meeting ROMA goals. Attendance and punctuality are essential functions of the job

EDUCATION: ADDITIONAL CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Associate’s Degree preferred and/or any combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform this job;
  • Must work well with persons of varied sexual preference, racial, ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds;
  • Knowledge of counseling and advocacy techniques for people who have been victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, including crisis intervention and case management skills beneficial;

§ Must exercise sound judgment, cope with stress and crisis situations in a calm manner and who models non-violent behavior;

  • Management and supervisory skills necessary and must maintain confidentiality. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and possess the ability to cross-communicate among diverse groups and facilitate problem resolution;
  • Must be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing;
  • Must be able and willing to attend out of town, overnight meetings;
  • Must be able to work flexible hours;
  • Must be able to work independently and with minimal supervision; and
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office and preferably databases.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Must get TB screening, Physical, Sex Offender Check, CPS, DMV, Criminal Record check, must be proficient in English;

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to lift and carry a minimum number of 25 pounds. This position requires bending, lifting, walking, talking, seeing, sitting, running, speaking, and hearing

PREFERENCES: (Current and former Head Start parent, active Agency volunteers, current work experience participants, interns)
