National Division

Shimmick’s National Division operates throughout the central and eastern U.S. Comprised of legacy companies, such as Morrison Knudsen, Washington Group, and others, this division has decades-long history of delivering successful transportation, transit, mining infrastructure, and water resources projects. In addition to state DOTs and transit agencies, the National Division has delivered more than $5 billion in work for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, primarily in the water resources (dams, reservoirs, locks, levees) sector. The National Division is delivering Oklahoma Turnpike Authority’s first build-finance project, the $260 million Gilcrease Expressway project in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Displays knowledge and abilities to evaluate, select and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria to meet basic engineering and construction specifications.
  • Prepare, assemble, and disseminate contract submittals, work plans, and related documents
  • Inspections and reporting for concrete pre-, during-, and post- placement; reinforcement installation; formwork installations
  • Contract document and submittal interpretation / write RFI's
  • Assist with rigging / lift plans, weight estimates, center of gravity calculations as required
  • Estimates and quantity takeoffs
  • Procurement process including preparation, quotes, and monitoring delivery
  • Review and redline Contract and shop drawings
  • Coordinate with survey to assist with layouts and tolerance checks
  • Under general supervision, performs routine duties
  • Displays applications of sound professional judgment on details of work.
  • Independently performs walk-downs and inspections of installed commodities to assure conformance with specifications and design.
  • Performs quantity surveys for tracking and reporting.
  • This is predominantly a day shift position though candidate should be willing to work limited night shift if required.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field + 2 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Heavy Civil construction and field experience.
  • Experience in designing support structures for rebar
  • Experience in form work inspections (Peri system)
  • Basic engineering knowledge for answering questions involving wood, steel, and concrete design for ensuring safety and adequacy during construction.
  • Experience reviewing and redlining structural details and lift drawings
  • AutoCAD 3D drafting/modeling experience
  • Previous USACE (US Army Corp of Engineers) experience is a plus, but not mandatory.
  • Ability to work with all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to interpret and pass on the requirements for concrete placing, reinforcement installation, and form work fabrication and setting.
  • Ability to independently interpret contract documents, design drawings and specifications.
  • Experience in scheduling, sequencing, procurement, material take offs, inventories, and cost estimates.
