Job Title: Field Geologist

Location(s): Grand Junction, CO

Status: Full-Time

FLSA: Exempt

Hiring Range: $50,000 - $57,000/yr. The anticipated starting salary pay range of $ 50,000 - $57,000/yr with a bachelor's degree. The offered salary may be more depending upon additional education, training, and experience of the selected applicant.

RSI EnTech, LLC is recruiting a Field Geologist assigned to the Groundwater and Geochemistry Group (GGG) who will support field activities across the Legacy Management Support (LMS) contract. The GGG is tasked with characterizing and developing compliance strategies for former uranium mills that operated in the 1950s and 1960s throughout the southwest. As part this effort, the Field Geologist will perform field characterization activities such as well installation, soil sampling, aquifer testing, stream gaging and transducer installation and maintenance. In addition to field activities, the field geologist is expected to assist GGG with groundwater evaluations.

The GGG embraces innovation and cutting-edge methodologies and technologies leading to the GGG becoming industry leaders in 3-D visualization and evaluation, geochemical assessment, and groundwater flow and reactive transport modeling. Staff development is a GGG priority and is accomplished through mentoring and increasingly challenging technical assignments; conference attendance and journal publications are encouraged. In addition to working with the GGG, the Field Geologist position will have the opportunity to participate in the LM Applied Studies and Technology (AS&T) program. AS&T studies are designed to support the LM mission through improved understanding of processes that affect remedy protectiveness and performance, including evaluation and application of advancements in technology. Ongoing AS&T studies include long-term disposal cell cover performance, plume persistence, enhanced natural attenuation, system operations and analysis at remote sites, data mining and project visualization and educational collaborations. AS&T studies are not limited to the ongoing studies; any study related to LM's mission will be considered for inclusion in the program.

This position is required to be in the field 25-50% of the time.

Primary responsibilities and essential functions:

• Describing lithology based on drill cuttings and core.
• Preparing lithologic and well construction logs.
• Overseeing and monitoring well installation and development operations.
• Performing slug testing and facilitating pumping tests.
• Installing and maintaining transducers.
• Downloading and processing transducer data.
• Providing office technical support as needed.
• Supporting hydrogeologic and geophysical field activities.
• Other duties as assigned.

Work experience, skills, and capabilities needed:

• Knowledge of fundamental principles, concepts, and techniques in geology.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Skill and ability to perform moderately complex professional tasks under general supervision and guidance.
• Ability to organize own work independently to meet established objectives, using discretion in performing duties.
• Demonstrated communication and analytical skills.
• Proven ability to work on a team with diverse backgrounds.

Technical knowledge, certifications/licenses, and software proficiency required:

• Valid driver's license.
• Microsoft Office.

Desirable qualifications, experience, or proficiencies of the ideal candidate:

• Field characterization experience.
• Ability to or experience work with subcontractors.
• A working knowledge of geosciences computer systems and software application programs.

Required Education and Years of Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in Geology.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
The employee exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Able to travel on uneven ground for several miles (2-4 miles) per day under a variety adverse weather conditions. Much of the traveling is up and down hills. Able to work in hot, cold, windy, and sometimes wet conditions. Able to work alone for several hours per day in the field. Able to be on their feet wearing steel toed boots for long periods of time. The employee is regularly required handle or feel, to reach, and communicate. The employee is frequently required to move about and maintain various positions. The employee must have the ability to perceive the environment and observe technical material and emails.
