Job Title: Field Geologist
Location(s): Grand Junction, CO
Status: Full-Time
FLSA: Exempt
Hiring Range: $50,000 - $57,000/yr. The anticipated starting salary pay range of $ 50,000 - $57,000/yr with a bachelor's degree. The offered salary may be more depending upon additional education, training, and experience of the selected applicant.

In addition to working with the GGG, the Field Geologist position will have the opportunity to participate in the LM Applied Studies and Technology (AS&T) program. AS&T studies are designed to support the LM mission through improved understanding of processes that affect remedy protectiveness and performance, including evaluation and application of advancements in technology. Ongoing AS&T studies include long-term disposal cell cover performance, plume persistence, enhanced natural attenuation, system operations and analysis at remote sites, data mining and project visualization and educational collaborations. AS&T studies are not limited to the ongoing studies; any study related to LM's mission will be considered for inclusion in the program.
This position is required to be in the field 25-50% of the time.
Primary responsibilities and essential functions:
- Describing lithology based on drill cuttings and core.
- Preparing lithologic and well construction logs.
- Overseeing and monitoring well installation and development operations.
- Performing slug testing and facilitating pumping tests.
- Installing and maintaining transducers.
- Downloading and processing transducer data.
- Providing office technical support as needed.
- Supporting hydrogeologic and geophysical field activities.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of fundamental principles, concepts, and techniques in geology.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Skill and ability to perform moderately complex professional tasks under general supervision and guidance.
- Ability to organize own work independently to meet established objectives, using discretion in performing duties.
- Demonstrated communication and analytical skills.
- Proven ability to work on a team with diverse backgrounds.
- Valid driver's license.
- Microsoft Office.
- Field characterization experience.
- Ability to or experience work with subcontractors.
- A working knowledge of geosciences computer systems and software application programs.
Bachelor's Degree in Geology.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
The employee exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Able to travel on uneven ground for several miles (2-4 miles) per day under a variety adverse weather conditions. Much of the traveling is up and down hills. Able to work in hot, cold, windy, and sometimes wet conditions. Able to work alone for several hours per day in the field. Able to be on their feet wearing steel toed boots for long periods of time. The employee is regularly required handle or feel, to reach, and communicate. The employee is frequently required to move about and maintain various positions. The employee must have the ability to perceive the environment and observe technical material and emails.
