Note: Selected candidate must live in the San Francisco Bay Area (preferrably San Jose or the East Bay). This position cannot be handled in a remote capacity from another state and requires the ability to meet with insureds and other stakeholders in-person and to inspect property damage. This is a field position that comes with a company vehicle.

About the role...

Investigates, determines liability, confirms coverage, establishes damages, and negotiates settlement of claims. Will also be required to maintain an active adjusters license in states where required.

What you'll accomplish...

  • Investigates, confirms coverage, determines liability, establishes damages, reports status and negotiates the settlement of assigned cases (has authority to make payment of assigned claims within prescribed limits).
  • Adjusts all types of claims.
  • Inspects damaged property, and determines claims related damage.
  • Estimates the cost of repair or replacement of damaged or stolen property.
  • Determines and reports on subrogation potential.
  • Initiates the sale of salvage personal property, and miscellaneous salvage items.
  • Reports theft, fraud, and arson losses as required to state and industry agencies.
  • Performs most duties on an individual basis, and work has a direct bearing on department results.
  • Represents the Company from a public relations standpoint and must conduct oneself in a professional manner at all times.
  • Personal contacts are a major part of activity and include policyholders, claimants, agents, witnesses, repair facilities, contractors, police and fire departments, state and county fraud and arson personnel, special investigators, attorneys, expert witnesses, members of the medical profession and all other persons incident to the investigation and processing of claims.
    • Employees will have to designate 3 months out of the year to travel away from their residence for up to 21 days per deployment. Promotes safety at all times and complies with safety/ergonomic standards as outlined in relevant company published manuals.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Bending, pulling, pushing, sorting, climbing, reaching standing, key entering, walking, seeing, kneeling.
  • Carrying up to 50 lbs.
  • Speaking (English), reading (English), and writing (English).

Physical environment...

Required job duties are normally performed in a climate-controlled office environment, but with exposure to some or all of the following environments when in the field:

  • Uncontrolled outside environmental conditions
  • Excessive Noise Levels
  • Chemicals Chemical/Biological Conditions
  • Moving Mechanical Parts
  • Areas considered dangerous
  • Conditions, which could affect the respiratory system or skin such as: fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, oils, smoke, soot, or poor ventilation.

Education needed...

High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Experience needed...

Prior experience working with the public with strong customer service and communication skills are strongly preferred.

Must achieve minimum passing scores on all claims training exams.

Special skills needed...

  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated superior customer service skills, ability to secure trust with customers and other stakeholders.
  • Strong PC skills.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Bondable.
