Offering more than 100 certificate, associate and bachelor’s degree programs, Daytona State College (DSC) has responded to the education and workforce training needs in our region for more than 60 years. The college enrolls nearly 25,000 students annually at its seven instructional sites, with graduates serving in critical fields including health care, emergency services, business, education, hospitality, engineering, technology and more.


We currently have an opportunity to join our team of talented and diverse Faculty and Staff as a Financial Aid Specialist.


Required Qualifications: Associate degree with emphasis in Finance, Accounting, Business, Higher Education, or a closely related field and one (1) year of related experience. Bilingual is preferred.


This is a full-time, hourly position with a minimum hourly rate of $16.11 with an approximate annual amount of $ 33,500.


Working Hours: Work hours will vary between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Employee will be scheduled to work at least one evening per week. This position will work overtime during peak registration periods and other times as deemed necessary.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Effectively and efficiently communicate with students and parents in person, over the phone and via email regarding all aspects of the financial aid process and eligibility requirements for long periods of time.
  • Be willing to develop knowledge of federal, state, and institutional regulations and policies to ensure students and parents are provided accurate information
  • Informs students and parents of financial aid availability, funding options, and federal and state regulations
  • Assist students and parents with the completion of both the state and federal financial aid application and other online document to ensure accuracy
  • Maintain proper recording of information within the student information system for assigned area, as well as processes daily incoming paperwork, which includes the scanning and tracking into the student’s file.
  • Rotate on to the phone queue when scheduled, and when assistance is requested, to ensure students calling receive accurate answers in a timely manner.
  • Assists with Financial Aid Presentations both within DSC and with outside constituents
  • Travel to work at regional campuses as needed.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: The successful candidate will have knowledge of various federal and state financial aid programs, adhere to policies and procedures, and the ability to build and maintain good working relationships with students, parents, and coworkers. The successful candidate will also possess impeccable customer service skills, strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple responsibilities during busier periods while remaining calm as well as the ability to communicate both positive and negative feedback effectively both orally and in writing.
