The Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric and Earth Science at the University Miami has an exciting opportunity for a full time Financial Analyst. The Senior Budget Analyst reports to the Associate Director of Business and Finance and will assist with the financial operations. This position will be a financial professional who has exceptional analytical, communication and interpersonal skills, as well as strong organizational and time management capabilities.

Duties include:

  • Conduct financial and budget planning analyses; provide analyses to support decision making to senior management.
  • Assist in building and maintaining financial models.
  • Serve as a resource for other departments providing financial and administrative support to faculty, staff and students.
  • Oversee fiscal management for assigned cost centers including billing, expenditure requests, and account reconciliation.
  • Responsible for fiscal year closing of assigned accounts.
  • Review and approve salary transactions, employee expense reimbursements, capital equipment acquisitions, journal entries, and purchase orders requests.
  • Analyze and coordinate the distribution of a variety of financial data and relevant reports in a clear, concise and timely manner; routinely perform variance and historical analysis; create financial, transactional and ad-hoc reports as needed.
  • Meet with Departments to provide updates and forecasting to assure correct expenditures and allocation for accounts.
  • Provide assistance and consult with departments in preparing cost and budget analysis and fiscal allocation. Create financial reports, reconciliations, and review irregular and unusual transactions for resolution.
  • Assist Director with developing of annual budgets.
  • Responsible for creating and sustaining a collaborative work environment where personnel is treated respectfully, ethically and professionally at all times; responsible for building positive and productive relationships with colleagues at all levels and departments across campus.
  • Support the Executive Director for Business and Finance and Director for Finance operationally and with other projects as needed.
  • Performance, at the highest professional level, of all other duties as may be assigned by the Executive Director.

A Bachelors Degree in Finance, Accounting or relevant field and a minimum of 1 years of experience is required. A combination of a strong background with computer application systems, excellent excel skills, accounting, and financial analytical skills are critical. Ability to work in a complex environment with the skills to manage multiple projects and deadlines, establish priorities, set objectives, and achieve stated goals. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
