Job description
SUMMARY
Responsible for the maintenance, repair, and upkeep of twelve (12) or more vehicles. Performs the maintenance and repair of vehicles and equipment. Performs or coordinates the maintenance and repair of LifeNet occupied facilities. Responsible for data entry, filing, general record keeping and other administrative/clerical duties for fleet activities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform preventive maintenance on Ambulances and Support Vehicles (oil change, lubrication, brake parts, tire rotation, rear differential service, transmission replacement, etc.)
- Diagnose and perform major vehicle repairs on Ambulances and Support Vehicles
- Diagnose and perform repairs on complicated systems (electrical, fuel injection, hydraulic suspension, generators, driveline, etc.)
- Perform minor preventive maintenance on LifeNet facilities (lighting systems, filters, alarm maintenance, etc.)
- Perform minor to major facility repairs (plumbing, lighting, door locks, light fabrication, remodeling, etc.)
- Coordinate major facilities maintenance or repair projects with established vendors; identify qualified vendors when necessary
- Must maintain a clean and orderly work area
- Must document repairs performed, parts useage, and supply inventories using established third party software systems and internal databases
- Test drives and shuttle vehicles
- Uses vehicle lift, hydraulic jacks, jack stands, hydraulic press, tire changing machine, refrigerant handling machine, grinders, hand tools, torches, welders and other specialized shop equipment
- Is conscious of shop safety, takes corrective action for unsafe conditions, notifies supervisor of potentially dangerous equipment and corrective action taken
- Determines performance standards to evaluate fleet services. This includes establishing reporting criteria for record keeping, inventory and fleet performance to provide feedback to management
- Communicates effectively with employees who are not well-versed in mechanical systems to identify problems and reslove vehicle or facility issues
- Participates in education for new and existing employees to explain vehicle systems, proper use and safe operation, and daily checks of vehicle systems
- Provides professional expertise to employees and management for purchase or implementation decisions related to new systems
- Responsible for working with other managers and support staff in the development of a departmental budget. This includes evaluation of fiscal performance at monthly or quarterly intervals to identify areas for improvement, cost reduction, or support for unanticipated expense
- Must be available for after-hours consult, advice to employees and managers, and occasional repairs to vehicles or facilities
- Implement, conduct, and monitor any required state or local environmental inspection
- Frequently works in a crouched position, on back, or in other awkward positions to accomplish repairs and maintenance of vehicles.
- Responsible for adhering to all company policies and procedures.
- Perform other related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum five (5) years full-time professional mechanic
- Must have working knowledge of modern automotive repairs and knowledge of OBD II system diagnostics
- Must reside within a 30 mile radius of Stillwater, Oklahoma
- Must maintain a valid state driver’s license.
- Must maintain ability to be covered under LifeNet insurance policy.
- Must maintain ability to pass LifeNet required drug screen.
- Must be able to work with shop tools and equipment.
- Must have own hand and pneumatic tools
- Must have desire to learn.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum ten (10) years full-time professional mechanic
- Experience with Chevrolet truck chassis and systems
- Experience with ambulance module systems

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Occasionally: Climbing at heights above seven feet, working in extreme climates and weather conditions
Frequently: Lifting in excess of 70 pounds not exceeding 150 pounds. Work in a crouched position or on back lying on mechanic’s dolly beneath a motor vehicle; subjected to chemical fumes, dust, dirt, grease, oil and various solvents.
Constantly: Lifting less than 70 pounds, squatting, standing, walking, bending, twisting, pulling, pushing, reaching, use of fine motor skills with hands and fingers.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Occasionally: Extreme heat and cold, wet and or humid conditions, Climbing at heights above seven feet.
Frequently: Working around chemical or exhaust fumes. Works with solvent and fuels. Works with and around others. Grinding, sawing, drilling, cutting, and striking.
Constantly: Works with oils, grease, dust dirt and other hazards. Works in confined spaces. Works with mechanical and electrical powered equipment. Works with compressed air and pneumatic tools.
