The Virginia State Police is seeking to hire a Food Production Worker B at the State Police Academy in Chesterfield County, Virginia. This position prepares food items in the State Police Academy cafeteria in accordance with State Police dining room procedures and Department of Health regulations.

  • Opens/prepares the cafeteria for daily operations; and pre-warms all ovens, starts dishwasher and brews morning beverages.
  • Peels, slices, and prepares salad bar.
  • Sets up salad bar.
  • Daily sets up steam table for various meals and serves meals.
  • Cooks various vegetables and meats per menu request, daily.
  • Measures ingredients and portions food items as instructed, as listed in recipes, or as indicated in guidance documents.
  • Anticipates problems and executes corrective measures as necessary or at supervisor’s request.
  • Daily steams, broils, and deep fat fries various meals according to established menu, and the Department of Health and Department procedures.
  • Assures that foods are prepared following standardized menus and recipes, or as instructed verbally by supervision.
  • Maintains total responsibility regarding the quality and timeliness of each meal served.
  • Establishes effective working relationships when interacting with supervisors and co-workers.
  • Promotes a positive, helpful, and friendly environment for the customer.
  • Accepts positive and constructive feedback.
  • Proceeds with duties as instructed by supervision.
  • Communicates in a professional manner when expressing ideas, requesting information, or clarification, when performing job requirements.
  • Attendance and punctuality consistently support job performance at the expected level.
  • Daily cleans cooking utensils, deep fryer, food slicer, grill, and other machinery used in the preparation and cooking of meals according to the Department of Health regulations.
  • Performs any special cleaning of work area that may be required, complying with established safety practices and sanitation techniques.
  • Corrects any unsafe actions independently, or when instructed by supervision.
  • Uses appropriate cleaning and sanitation methods used in a food service environment; and follows proper food storage methods.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of standard food preparation methods used in preparing and serving a variety of foods from fresh, canned, dry, or frozen; of cleaning and sanitation methods used in a food service environment; of food storage methods; and of basic arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division).
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare, assemble and serve a variety of foods; work rapidly and efficiently in performing job duties; work cohesively with peers, supervisors, and customers; apply and maintain standards of cleanliness, sanitation, and personal hygiene; read, write, and communicate in English; and demonstrate excellent customer service skills on an ongoing basis.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds unassisted; stand and walk on concrete and tile floors for long periods of time; and work in refrigerated areas.
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent or ability to obtain GED equivalent within six months of hire.
  • Experience in cooking and overseeing hot food services.
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience indicating possession of the preceding knowledge, skills, and abilities may substitute for this education and experience.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • ServSafe® certification preferred.
