Position Purpose:
The Food Service Aide is responsible for accepting and serving daily meals and snacks to the patients and clients of the San Julian Oasis Center. This respite program provides medical care, case management, personal care, 3 meals per day, access to long-term housing resources and placement, and reunification services for clients who have fallen out of touch with their family or support network. The Food Service Aide will provide assistance towards food service preparation, clean up and supplies management in a manner that upholds the JWCH mission to improve the health status and well-being of under-served segments of the population of Los Angeles County. This position will ensure smooth and consistent facility and residence operations.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Performs job functions as prescribed by job description, established policies, and agency/facility procedures within defined scope of education, training and responsibilities.
- Cleans areas in kitchenettes and dining room and empty trash cans in preparation for meal service.
- Accepts delivery of food, including sign off and inventory to ensure that full order has arrived.
- Cleans off all trays and set up a serving assembly line.
- Refers to special diet chart and is aware of all special diet needs.
- Ensures that all clients with special diets are served the proper meals.
- Disposes of any leftovers from previous day in refrigerator and clean off shelves inside.
- Inspects temperature for hot and cold food when it arrives.
- Inspects temperature for refrigerator and ensure proper temperature is maintained.
- Prepares inventory sheet to assist with food service supply ordering.
- Cleans the staff lounge by sweeping floors, and wiping counters.
- Responsible to maintain cleanliness in the community dining room, including cleaning spills, sweeping, and wiping tables and chairs.
- Responsible for cleanliness of all equipment related to food service.
- Apportions food item properly and in accordance to complying dietary endorsements.
- Coordinates with laundry services to ensure that cleaning rags are available on a constant basis.
- Washes dishes and cleans work area, tables, cabinets, refrigerators, ice maker machines, microwaves, blenders, and coffee makers.
- Supports ongoing quality assurance and improvement activities.
- Assists with efforts to assess and improve patient satisfaction regarding facility services.
- Participates in and assists with professional development activities.
- Follows highest standards of cleanliness.
- Follows all federal, state and corporate policies, health codes and guidelines in preparation and handling of foodstuffs.
- Maintains confidentiality at all times.
- Self-identifies and supports a system for staff to identify potentially unsafe systems/processes/situations and takes initiative to ensure problem solving with appropriate response that is clearly documented.
- Projects a positive professional image, adheres to organizational dress code, and ensures that all staff follows guidelines.
- Supports Residence & Food Coordinator with meetings as required.
- Demonstrates courtesy, mutual respect and compassion in dealing with others.
- Demonstrates effective leadership, role modeling working relations and works effectively as with the team to facilitate the organization’s ability to meet goals and objectives.
- Demonstrates a willingness to accommodate requirements or changing priorities in the workplace.
- Performs other duties and tasks as may be required or assigned.
Requirements:
- Vocational Education Certificate in Food Service from a valid institution.
- H.S. Diploma or G.E.D.
- Light work – exert/lift up to 25 lbs. force occasionally, and/or up to 15 lbs. regularly.
- Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel or crouch to perform regular duties.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Current Serv-Safe Card / Food Handler Certification.
- 1 year of experience in facility food service preferred.
