The Front Desk Attendant is responsible for performing a variety of routing and cyclical registration and clerical tasks while staffing the Registration Desk, including but not limited to, processing registrations, answering customers’ questions regarding facilities, programs and services, completing billing procedures and corresponding with customers and members

Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • A minimum age of 18 is required for this position
  • High school graduate or GED Certificate
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications and the ability to learn special recreation software packages
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, written and telephone communication skills
  • Team-centric focus with the ability to foster a collaborative and productive work environment
  • Experience planning, organizes, supervising part-time and/or seasonal employees is required
  • Other certifications may be required as deemed necessary

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Proficient in word processing, spreadsheet, database and other software programs as applicable to the position
  • Good knowledge of Itasca Park District facilities, programs and services
  • Good knowledge of the principles and practices of customer service
  • Good knowledge of emergency and auxiliary services available in the community when needed in emergency situations
  • First Aid, CPR and AED certification is required by the first day of work

  • Capacity to understand basic math functions to complete transactions, batches, and cash reports
  • Capacity to reserve and manage facility reservations, changes and cancellations accurately
  • Ability to work in the vicinity of the general public and park patrons in public areas
  • Capacity to be self-motivated and complete assigned work by using effective time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to proactively trouble shoot, problem solve and make sound judgments in keeping with the mission of the Park District

  • Ability to follow directions, to communicate orally and in writing in English, and to read and understand materials printed in English

Hours:

Hours of work are generally a combination of daytime, weeknight and weekend hours, up to 6 hours a day and up to 28 hours per week. Overtime hours may be required as authorized and approved by the Superintendent of Recreation

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Communicates with the Head Registrar on issues and activities elated to the Front Desk
  • Welcomes and assists customers in a friendly, efficient manner both face-to-face and via telephone.
  • Reviews and maintains the policies and procedures outlined in the Itasca Park District Procedures Manual with respect to the safe and effective operations of the Recreation & Facilities Department and Safety Program
  • Accurately processes program registrations, program cancellations, memberships and other cash, check or credit card transactions that flow through the Registration Desk
  • Assists with maintaining accurate records of billing for gymnastics, preschool and any other regularly scheduled bill payment programs
  • Establishes good working relationships with patrons, the community and the general public
  • Attends scheduled staff meetings, as needed
  • Attends work on a regular basis
  • Maintains a clean and organized work environment
  • Performs any additional job duties, which may be considered essential, as assigned by the Head Registrar

Marginal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develops, promotes and utilizes safe work habits while contributing in every possible manner to the safety of them selves, coworkers and the general public
  • Assists in program support and with special events, as needed
  • Assists in maintaining the Facility Calendar and Daily Room Usage files at the Front Desk.

Physical Considerations and Personal Protective Equipment PPE Requirements:

  • Must possess strength, stamina, and mobility to perform ongoing light to moderate work.
  • Incumbent will occasionally stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, push, pull, lift, finger grasp, feel, sit and perform other repetitive motions, as required
  • Ability to lift heavy weights of up to 30 pounds frequently without assistance and heavier weights with assistance and/or the use of equipment. The ability to lift, turn and carry 30 pounds safely, placing the load on a chest-high shelf fulfills this lifting requirement
  • Vision is required to observe and interact with visitors and patrons, and to view information on paper/forms and a computer
  • Hearing and speech are required to hear and speak with visitors and patrons, both in person and on the telephone
  • Work environment is indoors in an office setting with controlled temperature and fluorescent lighting around people and office equipment with moderate to high noise levels
  • Exposure to cleaning and office supplies as well as blood and body fluids exposure when rendering first aid and CPR
  • Potential exposure to chronic infectious disease while performing routine first aid or emergency procedures.
  • The use of the following personal protective clothing and equipment (PPE) is required, based on the assigned job duties:

o Non-latex gloves

o Microshield and/or Sealeasy

o Automated External Defibrillator
