Founded in 1959 and located on a beautiful 28-acre campus in Malvern, PA, VFES and the Vanguard School are dedicated to the growth and development of children and young adults with a variety of special needs. Under the direction of the Facilities Manager, the General Maintenance Worker is responsible for minor repairs, preventative maintenance, and the overall safety and cleanliness of VFES buildings, grounds, roads, walkways, vehicles, and equipment.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

• Perform minor repairs including but not limited to: painting, drywall, carpentry, masonry, electrical, and plumbing. Perform preventative maintenance as directed.
• Replace filters and light bulbs, normally at heights of twelve feet or less.
• Fuel student vans as needed. Report vehicle issues to Facilities Manager.
• Maintain security of campus buildings including checking, opening, closing and locking doors and windows.
• Move furniture, equipment, and materials as needed.
• Transport incoming deliveries and other supplies to appropriate buildings, unpack/assemble as needed.
• Prepare rooms and outdoor spaces for special events. Set up chairs, tables, and other items following directions.
• Clean walks, remove snow, and apply de-icing solutions.
• Operate all lawn and grounds equipment, including power mowers and snow blowers. To ensure grounds are properly maintained. Perform minor mechanical work as needed.
• Assist custodial staff as needed. May operate vacuum cleaners, strippers, buffers and mop wringers; and use mops, brooms, brushes, soap, cleaning fluid, floor wax and other material related to building cleaning.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:

• Basic knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, painting, masonry, and grounds keeping. Experience and/or specialized training in carpentry, plumbing, or other trades preferred.
• Able to effectively use a variety of hand and power tools.
• Able to safely operate lawn and grounds equipment.
• Able to lift up to 50 pounds and climb, lift, bend, and stand 90% of time.
• Able to work in all weather conditions and perform snow removal and grounds work.
• Maintain a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license and have a safe driving record.
