Job Overview
The Pricing and Analytics team falls under the remit of the Chief Underwriting Officer and works closely with the sales, claims, actuarial, finance and IT departments. We are looking for a talented GIS analyst to join our team to further increase the variety, availability and use of GIS data in FBD. The GIS Analyst will have responsibility for the creation and maintenance of GIS data and for the implementation of GIS data and technology across the company. The successful candidate will work closely with Underwriting and Pricing teams to utilise GIS capabilities to strengthen Underwriting Strategy. The GIS analyst will also be responsible for relationship management with third party suppliers and will represent FBD at industry and market events relevant to GIS. This role is a 12 month fixed term contract (Maternity Cover).
Job Responsibilities
- Responsibility for creation and management of GIS tools to enable underwriters to price and manage risk more effectively.
- Specialist input into strategy based on analysis of GIS data
- Perform complex data analysis using GIS tools, apply the capabilities of GIS to solve complex spatial and relational problems.
- Data extraction, compilation, manipulation and analysis
- Leading the implementation of GIS related deliveries across FBD.
- Providing advice on the further utilisation of GIS technologies across Underwriting and Pricing and how it can be incorporated into the value stream.
- Management of third party supplier relationships and contracts
- Representing FBD at Industry and market events
- Identification of external data sources within Underwriting and pricing
- Preparation of the 2022 Census data when released
Job Responsibilities
Education
- Third level qualification in a geomatics, GIS, geodetic/geospatial surveying, geography, urban/regional planning or related discipline where GIS was a significant component with 1+ year’s relevant experience working as a GIS analyst in a commercial environment. Other related experience / factors will be considered as appropriate.
Experiences
- Experience with ArcMap, ArcPro and/or ArcGIS Online
- Have demonstrable knowledge and experience in the following areas;
- Spatial databases and database management.
- Map design and production.
- Experience in the creation, maintenance and interrogation of spatial datasets.
- Knowledge of data quality issues, standards and metadata.
- Awareness of GeoDirectory, OSI, CSO, Gamma and Lexis Nexis and other available data sources.
Desirable:
- Knowledge of SQL, Python (ArcPy) and/or Alteryx
- Experience with risk datasets e.g. flood, subsidence
- Experience with data extraction, conversion, cleaning and analysis
- General Insurance experience

- Have strong IT and graphic skills and proven ability to present maps and documents to a high standard.
- Possess excellent problem solving and analysis skills.
- Possess strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex GIS technical concepts to non-technical users.
