Chevron is accepting online applications for the Geoscience Data Technologist positionthrough May 18, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. (PST).

The Geoscience Data Technologist will be a member of the Subsurface Digital Transition team within Asset Development of the San Joaquin Valley Business Unit. This position is a critical interface within the business unit for maintaining governance around geoscience / geospatial data and acts as an interface between subsurface practitioners and IT.

The Geoscience Data Technologist uses advanced digital workflows and application skills to support geoscience and geospatial workscope; generates maps and other analysis for internal use, regulatory submissions, conducts QC and data management; has high degree of familiarity with a variety of geoscience / geospatial data, data loading, naming conventions, data formats, data manipulation and analysis; supports clients/customers and assists with functional projects under regular supervision.

Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

  • Application Data Support
    • Management of application supported/linked data across critical subsurface applications included but not limited to the following: Petrel, GIS, ArcPRO and OFM.
    • Work with practitioners to help provide linkage to data SORs and help practitioners access critical data.
  • Manage subsurface data and quality control (SOR)
    • Submit tickets and interface with IT database owners to make correction and clean subsurface data.
    • Support subsurface data sets and improve accuracy and consistency in areas of greatest need.
    • Import/export data from Petrel and ArcGIS for use by customers.
  • Consultation
    • Provide consultation to team on data architecture and existing digital.
      processes to drive business value and simplification.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field (i.e. Geology, Mathematics, Software Engineering, etc.).
  • Ability to handle data sources & data management of large volumes of data.
  • Ability to understand customer needs & prioritize highest value opportunities without oversight.
  • Ability to quickly establish relationships and credibility within a new team.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience: 5+ years relevant industry experience.
  • Understanding across a wide spectrum of oil field practices including Reservoir Engineering, Geology, Operations, Workovers and Drilling operations.
  • Knowledge of subsurface data sets and common application suites (i.e. ArcPRO, Petrel).

Relocation will not be considered.

Expatriate assignments will not be considered.

  • The compensation and reference to benefits for this role is listed on this posting in compliance with applicable law. The selected candidate’s compensation will be determined based on his or her skills, experience, and qualifications. Please note that the compensation and benefits listed below are only applicable to successful candidates who are hired onto local United States payroll.
  • The anticipated salary range for this position is $85,400 – $192,600.
