Summary of Duties

The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing GIS services to City staff and citizens, including database structure, assisting with the development and implementation of GIS standards, data gathering, conversion, analysis, manipulation, and processing of geospatial data using geographic information system software. In addition, the ideal candidate must maintain a working knowledge of ArcGIS Enterprise, Python, R, HTML, XML, Arcade and APIs. Strong attention to detail and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment is vital to ensure success in the role, as are high levels of accuracy, timeliness and dependability. ?The GIS Supervisor oversees the GIS Division and is accountable for the quality and efficiency of GIS products and data. The position is required to maintain continued knowledge of information technologies/GIS developments. As a GIS Supervisor, you will:

  • Provide leadership and oversight for the GIS Divisions, including all operations, assigned staff, equipment, and materials/supplies. Oversee division performance measures, internet pages, strategic projects and other initiatives.
  • Manages large technical projects with a broad and long range of City impact utilizing PMI methods
  • Oversees the division work plan in alignment with the IT Strategic Plan.
  • Responsible of creating standard operating procedures for division activities.
  • Provide recommendations on City policy needs for both new and existing interdepartmental policies.
  • Research new GIS Technology and implements appropriate technologies per industry best practices.
  • Responsible for working with City departments to identify geospatial data, maps, and applications requirements, as well as interfaces to other systems within the City and various local, regional, state, and federal jurisdictions as required
  • Develops and manages all data quality assurance activities related to the enterprise GIS
  • Implements short- and long-term strategic planning, goals, and priorities for GIS services in alignment with City goals, mission, and vision.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Computer Science, Urban Planning or a related field from an accredited school or university is required.
  • Four or more years of GIS technology experience including at least one year of supervisory experience.
Training (License and/or Certification):
  • Valid Class "C" Texas Driver License
  • GISP- Certified GIS Professional Certification preferred.
  • FAA Part 107 License
