Required Education:

4 Year Degree in education, social sciences, journalism, and/or a related S.T.E.M.-based emphasis

The University of Missouri seeks a qualified candidates to fill one (1) Graduate Research Assistantship (GRA) position in the MU Thrive program housed in the College of Education and Human Development (CEHD). The graduate research assistant will work in all facets of research as well as direct administrative and media communications support to students and faculty, as needed. Academic GRA responsibilities include assisting with design and planning on Thrive research projects, collecting, and analyzing data, preparing reports and assessments, designing instruments used in data collection and annual program evaluation of Thrive communities of practice. The GRA will also support Thrive during event-based activities, support Thrive to research on-going funding opportunities and write grants, draft assigned portions of annual reports, design and manage the program newsletter, draft news releases and media PSAs, disseminate email campaigns and community announcements to invested Thrive communities and stakeholders, assist in on-campus recruitment of students, faculty, staff, and stakeholders willing to serve as allies and accomplices in communities of practice, maintain minutes as assigned during meetings, transcribe data, manage the program website and social media channels, take photographs during events, manage photo archive, as well as other duties as assigned by the MU Thrive staff.

Essential Functions

Graduate research assistants will support Thrive in research, educating, or service. Responsibilities may include:

  • Support analysis, design, and execution of research projects, e.g., literature reviews, data collection (e.g., surveys, interviews, ETL), data analysis, or data visualization.
  • Support tracking research project progress, reviewing deliverables, and completing grant reporting obligations.
  • Support preparing presentation materials and workshop curriculum, as well as researching material for curriculum development
  • Develop internal systems, manage social media outlets, and participate in all phases of program development lifecycle
  • Support investigators in transitioning research to either training or products

Requirements:

At least 2 semesters remaining in their program of study at the Univ. of Missouri, Columbia.

GRA will pledge a minimum commitment of 25% to 50% and may be required to work on campus; candidate may request occasional remote working options.

Qualifications/Application Process

  • graduate GPA of at least 3.0
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree required in an appropriate discipline, with a proven record of advancing equity in higher education
  • cleared of any outstanding probationary requirements

Preferred requirements:

  • Graduate GPA of at least 3.5
  • Match past/current experience with requested skills by faculty and lead staff, with expressed intent to work in the field of STEM
  • Interest and proven record or portfolio of social media management, marketing, or public communication; overall proficiency using multiple platforms on a regular basis; ability to edit photographs, produce small clips from digital interviews, and record events in digital film and photo formats.
  • Grant-writing and reporting experience, as well as excellent written, professional presentation, strong oral communication, and time management skills.
  • Be a self-starter and at ease with autonomy, possess excellent organizational skills, and maintain an unwavering attention to detail on all tasks.
  • Working in the program may not be limited to a traditional work week, so the candidates must be willing to work some nights and weekends, with flexibility; an adaptive mindset and responsive manner of communication are a must.
