Job description
The Grant Writer will research and identify state, federal, and private external funding opportunities by coordinating and providing assistance to faculty, administrators, and staff in the development, writing, editing and submitting often highly competitive grant proposals. The Grant Writer ensures that all applications meet college and state guidelines and that grant requests are submitted within published time tables and deadlines. Remote/hybrid work option is available.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
- Lead grant development. Design, write, and or edit all grant proposals.
- Consult with faculty, administrators and staff to identify grant priorities.
- Provide guidance to faculty/staff for submittal of grant proposals and meeting the outcomes of the grant-funded program.
- Prepare and submit all grant proposals and reports including writing, editing, proofreading, assembling and submission online to various agencies.
- Process any modifications and rewrites required by funding agencies on behalf of funded grants.
- Research and identify external grant funding from federal, state, corporate and private foundation funding sources. Conduct demographic, economic, historical, and other types of research needed to make grant proposals competitive.

- Explain often complex federal/state guidelines to staff to fully understand grant requirements and institutional responsibilities if funded.
- Monitor grant reporting and modifications to ensure grant compliance.
- Initiate correspondence with grant personnel regarding compliance with financial, regulatory and funding agency requirements.
- Monitor institutional permissions and authorizations for use of electronic or web-based systems, and employee access to them.
- Maintain records of grant due dates, grants submitted, active projects, funding needed and potential funding sources to meet departmental performance metrics.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Vice President of Advancement.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, business communications, or related field, master’s degree preferred.
- Two years professional grant writing experience, including success in competitive grant awards from federal/state agencies or Education competitive grant proposal development and compliance
- Knowledge of research procedures and budget development.
- Proficiency in word processing, database and presentation software, spreadsheets and experience with integrating software application to produce complex documents.
- A level of interpersonal and communication skills to enable the facilitation of project development teams and must be able to inform and persuade internal and external partnerships/representatives.
- Ability to meet deadlines and to effectively handle multiple projects.
- Proven ability to work effectively and constructively with persons of diverse cultures, language groups, and abilities; demonstrate sensitivity to and ability to work with the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course or work.
