Job description
Identifies, defines and develops funding sources to support existing and planned program activities. Leads the development, writing, and submission of grant proposals to federal, state, and private funding agencies related to sustainability-related project and programs. Grant management of federal funding as needed.
This position will interact on a regular basis: unit leadership, office of sponsored programs
This position typically will advise and counsel: unit leadership, unit staff
This position may supervise lower level grants admin or administrative staff
Responsibilities
Job Duty 1 -
Generates high-quality institutional proposals, narratives, applications, and supporting documents in response to solicitations consistent with all policies and procedures of the Institute, and the requirements and guidelines of the funding agencies
Job Duty 2 -
Responsible for the preparation of proposals and grant applications
Job Duty 3 -
Responsible for professional and administrative work in researching, identifying, developing, and responding to federal grant opportunities in support of assigned unit
Job Duty 4 -
Researches and identifies new government, corporate, and private funding prospects to match Institute and unit priorities
Job Duty 5 -
Meets regularly and works with appropriate research faculty to research, develop, write, and discuss current and new funding related to the area of expertise and research field
Job Duty 6 -
Serves as a primary liaison to all funding agencies and organizations concerning assigned unit awards and grants
Job Duty 7 -
Coordinates and track the progress of submitted proposals, by actively maintaining grant schedules and tracking grant progress
Job Duty 8 -
Coordinates with Sponsored Programs Administration to create expenditure and income budgets to accompany proposals
Job Duty 9 -
Remains up to date on current issues relative to grant proposals
Job Duty 10 -
Perform other related duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Required Experience
Three to four years of job-related experience
Preferred Qualifications
Certifications or licenses preferred: Certified Research Administrator, Certified Pre-Award Research Administrator, or Certified Financial Research Administrator
Preferred Educational Qualifications
Master's Degree. Understanding of Sustainability and related programs.
Preferred Experience
Preferred working experience:
- Previous federal grant application, submission, approval, and management of funds
- Previous experience with higher education grant writing
- A proven record of securing major grants with certifiable references

Motivated self-starter with the ability to work collaboratively and independently with purpose and accuracy in a fast-paced environment
KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of grant application process, scoring criteria, and funding cycles
Proficiency in research, interpreting, and analyzing diverse data
SKILLS
Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem-solving, independent judgment, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, project management, and presentation skills.
Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (i.e., Microsoft Office suite)
Highly organized with the ability to implement systems and follow-up processes, strong attention to detail and follow-up skills strong customer service skills, and phone and e-mail etiquette
