Offering more than 100 certificate, associate and bachelor’s degree programs, Daytona State College (DSC) has responded to the education and workforce training needs in our region for more than 60 years. The college enrolls nearly 25,000 students annually at its seven instructional sites, with graduates serving in critical fields including health care, emergency services, business, education, hospitality, engineering, technology and more.


We currently have an opportunity to join our team of talented and diverse Faculty and Staff as a Groundskeeper.


Required Qualifications: This position requires a high school diploma or GED. Six (6) months of recent and verifiable commercial lawn maintenance experience is also required. Candidate must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. A valid Florida Driver’s License is required to drive College vehicles when necessary. Candidate must have their own transportation to report to other college campuses as assigned. Must be able to be forklift certified within one year.


This is a full-time, non-exempt position with a minimum hourly rate of $14.04 with an approximate annual amount of $29,200.


Working Hours: Regular working hours are Monday to Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Flexible work shifts are in place and candidate must be able to work weekends as part of their regularly assigned work shift, when required. Candidates may be required to work at college campuses other than the campus assigned on an as needed basis.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Mows, cuts, trims, edges, weeds and maintains College grounds. Operates lift/bucket truck to trim trees up to 30’. Performs other landscaping tasks as directed.
  • Empties trash into truck and hauls to dump for disposal.
  • Collects recycling materials such as newspapers, glass, aluminum and metal and prepares for delivery.
  • Operates blower to clear debris from sidewalks, parking lots and other areas.
  • Maintains plants by weeding and spraying with pesticides and fertilizers. Plants shrubbery, trees, and flowers. Prunes and trims trees and shrubbery.
  • Performs maintenance and minor repairs of grounds equipment. Informs supervisor if equipment needs advanced service.
  • Drives College vehicles and operates golf carts and light trucks to retrieve/return supplies, equipment, tools, etc.
  • Attends staff meetings to exchange information. Attends professional seminars and/or conferences to improve professional skills.
  • Gathers, verifies, and maintains information to support periodic and special reports documenting activities and events for assigned area.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: This position requires walking, standing, stooping, stretching, pushing, pulling, reaching and lifting all of the time, exerting up to 50 pounds of force on a recurring basis. Candidate will work independently and/or in groups and work heights up to 30 feet approximately. This position also requires the ability to use machines, tools, or equipment such as tractors, lift/bucket trucks, cherry picker, light equipment, mowers, forklift, and/or power saws. This position will experience exposure to outdoor temperatures, hot and cold. Must be able to follow oral/written communications. Candidate should have computer knowledge to be able to clock in/clock out, and view personnel related information (paycheck, W-2, etc.)
