Job description
The University of Iowa, Landscape Services is seeking a highly motivated person to work as a Groundskeeper I. This position would provide support to the Concrete Crew, Groundskeepers, Mow/Turf Crews, Install Crews, and where else they may be needed. Must have basic knowledge of grounds maintenance skills and equipment and hand tools. Working knowledge of plant material. During inclement winter weather this position will be required to assist in snow and ice removal in a variety of equipment that may include skid steers, plow trucks, sander, or Polar Trac.
Duties to Include:
- Assisting Concrete Crew.
- Assisting Groundskeepers/Turf Crew.
- Participate in snow removal operations.
- Assist other Landscape Services units such as the Tree Crew, Installation Crew, Projects Crew.
- Use technology as required in fulfilment of position (e.g., email, Employee Self Service, work order system).
- Preventative maintenance
- Communicate with supervisor, staff, and customers.
- Driving to work locations.

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 6:00 am to 2:30 pm; overtime as required for special events or snow removal
Location: 415 S. Madison St (Landscape Services Complex), Iowa City; works campus wide
About Facilities Management:
Facilities Management (FM) is a service unit of approximately 500 employees who work behind the scenes, 24 hours a day, serving the University of Iowa as stewards for our downtown Iowa City campus and Oakdale campus in Coralville. FM staff coordinate campus master planning, manage design and construction, and maintain and clean the buildings and grounds.
Minimum Eligibility Requirements:
- One year of experience in operating the machinery and tools used in groundskeeping work or
- Any combination of related experience and education from which comparable knowledge and ability can be acquired which totals one year.
Special Qualifications
- Valid driver’s license and ability to meet and maintain UI Fleet Safety Standards.
Desirable Qualifications
- Prefer 2 years previous concrete/groundskeeping experience.
- Good communication skills and experience working on a team.
- Prefer basic computer experience.
- Preventative maintenance and troubleshooting experience.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to work with and around a diverse culture.
