Job description

A Part Time Head Lifeguard ensures the safety of patrons by preventing and responding to emergencies, providing leadership to lifeguards and other facility staff at the Shawnee Mission School District Aquatic Center as well as the outdoor beaches located at Shawnee Mission Park and/or Kill Creek Park. The purpose of this position is to ensure the safety of the citizens of Johnson County and community visitors. Successful performance helps ensure the provision of recreational opportunities and improved quality of life for the citizens of Johnson County.

MAJOR DUTIES:

• Observe and enforce all rules and regulations of the facility to prevent accidents or emergency situations.
• Educate and inform patrons of the rules and regulations of the facility
• Maintain constant surveillance of patrons in the facility; respond quickly to all emergencies and administer first aid as needed
• Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary facility
• Communicate with the lifeguard team and facility staff for additional assistance in an emergency.
• Provide quality customer service for our patrons
• Supervise lifeguard staff during scheduled shifts including lifeguard rotations, cleaning the facility, use of appropriate chemicals, and training of facility staff
• Complete and submit all appropriate daily paperwork during assigned shifts
• Attend all in-service training sessions and staff meetings as scheduled
• Assist in the training of lifeguard staff in proper water rescues and CPR/First Aid techniques
• Maintain good physical condition and strong job-related skills
• Perform all other related duties as assigned.

This is a part time position with hours up to 1000 annually.

• Minimum age of 16

• American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification and Waterfront Lifeguard Certification required

• American Red Cross First Aid, CPR & AED Certification required

• Previous experience in peer management/supervision or ability to demonstrate related skills set

• Strong communication and customer service skills along with the ability to work with individuals of all ages.

• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions

• Ability to maintain good physical condition and maintain professional skills of safety, alertness, responsibility, initiative, good judgment and cleanliness.

Compensated training for American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification, if not currently certified.

Paid ongoing training.

Eligible for paid time off.
