Your tasks


Direct Reefer Business Operations for the North America Cluster and ensure the competent, accurate and timely movement of cargo to and from specific locations within the service standards agreed with the customers while optimizing regional and national FCL procurement activities and the reefer business structures in line with the global ocean freight reefer strategy Tasks & Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for operational productivity, personnel expenses PersEx and operational expenses OpEx
  • Responsible for meeting the reefer volume and profitability budgets
  • Act as escalation point, resolve internal cross-team conflicts and escalate unresolved issues to next management level
  • Ensure Vendor performance, participate in Vendor visits, Vendor reviews (incl. QBR's Quarterly Business Reviews) when required
  • Ensure the selection of the most optimal services and Vendors (considering electronic connectivity, cost, lead times, reliability)
  • Manage all Vendor facing communication and shipment related internal communication between DB Schenker stakeholders
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key vendors
  • Manage a team, incl. the hiring of new team members and ensuring proper induction is provided
  • Ensure an appropriate and balanced workload for individual teams members and the team overall
  • Implementing new processes, standards, guidelines when required
  • Ensure the overall performance of the team as specified in internal/external KPI's, Service Level Agreements (SLA's)
  • Monitor team performances for quality and quantity
  • Execute the global ocean freight Reefer Product strategy (utilize carrier portfolio, maximize Volume Incentive Plans VIP)
  • Manage ocean carrier capacity through proper allocation management in balance with effective yield management
  • Continuously optimize cost of sales, provide transparency and increase GP with focus on the overall Reefer product strategy
  • Responsible for creating and maintaining "Minimum SELL Rates" (MSR) for an agreed Trade Lane portfolio
  • Responsible for creating and maintaining "Blended BUY Rates" (BBR) for an agreed Trade Lane portfolio
  • Responsible for creating pricing and service solutions for customer tenders
  • Get actively involved in the acquisition of major Reefer accounts by identifying opportunities and attending key customer meetings
  • Manage related Customs activities as needed Deliverables & Achievables:
  • Ensure Land- and Ocean Carrier utilization as per Trade Management / Intermodal Management guidelines
  • Ensure accurate Cost accruals have been entered in the TMS (TANGO)
  • Manage and resolve all disputes and issues with Vendors
  • Ensure all activities in TMS (TANGO) are completed on time
  • Ensure compliance with Customer specific KPI's - as applicable
  • Ensure all operational SOPs are properly followed
  • Ensure all operational KPI's are achieved
  • Ensure EBIT performance of an agreed Trade Lane portfolio against a budget
  • Ensure Volume performance of an agreed Trade Lane portfolio against a budget
  • Act in a manner which increases employees and Customer satisfaction and loyalty, maximizes shipment profitability and decreases operating expenses
  • Promote a paperless, digital office environment utilizing all modern communication methods and electronic tools provided by DB Schenker
  • Support a positive, attractive working atmosphere and office environment
  • Maximize and drive the use of digital connectivity for interacting with all Vendors (exchange of electronic milestones, dispatch/bookings via EDI, etc…)
  • Maintain regular communication with the Customer Management- and Trade Management teams about Vendor/Carrier selections- and performance
  • Escalate service/ technical issues as needed

Requirements


Details/Specification/Explanation of the role specific skills This is a director level position. An extremely high level of business acumen is required. Must have exceptional leadership, knowledge of reefer business, critical thinking, time management, problem solving, and organization skills with ability to perform well under pressure. Must possess attention to detail and able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Results oriented with an ability to prioritize, organize, and manage time effectively. Must be fluent in written and spoken English. Familiarity with continuous improvement methodology is required. Bachelor's degree or equivalent required. 10 plus years Freight Industry and 5 years Management experience required. We are an equal opportunity employer.
