Archangels Academy, K-8 classical, liberal arts academy rooted in Catholic tradition, seeks a talented and dynamic, full-time Headmaster. This is a rare and exciting opportunity for one called to leadership in Catholic, classical, liberal arts education. Located in Union, IL, we are situated between two large metropolitan areas of Rockford and Chicago.

Summary
The Headmaster serves as the educational leader of the school and is responsible for implementing curriculum, overseeing the teaching of staff and managing the policies, regulations and procedures to ensure that all students are supervised in a safe learning environment that adheres to our Catholic identity and promotes a strong culture of faith, joy and righteousness at the school. In conjunction with the board of directors, he or she is responsible for instructional leadership (teacher growth and development), curriculum oversight, hiring and supervision of instructional personnel, student life, discipline, and related parent communications. In addition, the role of the Headmaster serves as the catalyst for an engaging and joyful culture among the students and staff.

The Headmaster will ensure that students are in a learning environment that develops both faith and reason and allows them to discover their God-given talents and to discern their ultimate calling with a joyous fervor. He or she will serve as the chief administrative officer for all operations of the school and is charged with the responsibility for assisting the Board in developing workable and effective policies and for implementing the policies ultimately set by the Board.

The Headmaster must be a practicing Catholic, preferably with a Master's level degree or equivalent experience in teaching and administration in a classical school setting, demonstrate a commitment to Catholic K-8 education and willing to take an oath of fidelity to the Magisterium of the Church. Salary and benefits are competitive and commensurate with experience.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:
Curriculum and Academic Excellence

• Oversee implementation of and adherence to curriculum, including any future changes to said curriculum
• Collect course materials for each class (syllabus, weekly teaching plan, tests)
• Oversee school accreditation process and renewal
• Maintain academic data across grades for accreditation, recruitment and retainment

Teaching Responsibilities

• Headmaster will be expected to teach (number of classes to be determined)
• Preference for candidates proficient in teaching more than one of the following subjects: Theology, Philosophy, Literature, Writing (IEW), History, Latin, Math, Science, Art, Drama, or Music

Management

• Oversee faculty hiring, evaluation, rehires, terminations
• Conduct classroom observations for faculty members as part of evaluation process
• Ensure mentorship and professional development of faculty
• Coordinate a healthy relationship and communication between school and facility host site

Student Life and Discipline

• Establish and promote a culture of joy and love for Catholicism and education
• Ensure discipline policies are appropriately enforced.
• Oversee school-sponsored extracurricular activities and sports.
• Oversee academic and behavioral eligibility for extracurricular activities.

Parent Communications

• Send weekly Headmaster updates and announcements to parents or school newsletter.
• Meet with parents regarding student discipline and academic issues.
• Facilitate Parent-Teacher conferences at a minimum of once per semester.

Admissions

• Participate on an admissions committee to:
• Admit new students upon review of student application materials, placement exam, and family interview.
• Oversee transfer student process (curriculum, graduation requirements, forms, etc.) review placement tests and contact parents with remedial needs.
• Meet with prospective parents and students.
• Prepare and execute informational meetings, Open Houses and other relevant events

Guidance

• Coordinate standardized testing including the Classical Learning Test
• Maintain an open line of communication with other classical, liberal arts schools in the area and Catholic high schools.

Other School Operations

• Involvement in selection and evaluation of vendors (software, textbooks, other services)
• Maintain an active relationship with Alumni

Requirements

• Master's Degree in related field preferred or equivalent experience in teaching and administration in a classical school setting
• Significant teaching experience in a classical school environment and experience in secondary school administration
• Practicing Catholic with knowledge of and fidelity to the teachings of the Catholic Church
• Working knowledge of institutional developments, advancement, fundraising/grants
