POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Health and Wellness Director directs program and staff development and supervision, ensuring services are satisfactory for YMCA members. The Health and Wellness Director promote healthy living and community well-being through meaningful YMCA programs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Develop, manage, and evaluate department programs such as fitness assessments, personal training, small group training, special events, and wellness programs for YMCA members of all ages
  • Hire and supervise Health and Wellness staff, conducting staff trainings and performance reviews
  • Develop new health and wellness programs and services that contribute to the overall health and well-being of the community, enhance, and encourage participants, and recruit and retain members
  • Assist in the development and management of the annual Health and Wellness Department budget.
  • Serve as a leader and Impact Team Member, collaborating with other departments to develop membership plans and YMCA fundraising events aimed at enhancing YMCA membership communicating the YMCA mission, objectives, and programs to members and program participants.
  • Maintain program areas at the YMCA, ensuring environments and equipment are clean, orderly, and safe.
  • Demonstrate through action and interaction with staff, YMCA members and the public, the Four Character Development Principles of the YMCA: Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.
  • Interpret and communicates the Mission, objectives, and programs to Members and program participants through YMCA activities, trainings, fundraising, and staff meetings

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in exercise science, physical education, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • May be substituted with an associate degree and at least two years of related work experience
    • May be substituted for at least four years of work experience
  • At least three years’ experience in health and wellness programming and management.
  • Certified Personal Trainer (AFFA, NSCA, ACSM, ACE, NASM), Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (NSCA), or Health Fitness Specialist (ACSM).
  • Experience working with program and policy volunteers.
  • Completion of YMCA required trainings upon hire
  • Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds

STARTING PAY: $20.00/hr-$21.00/hr
