Job Description
Manage gamma spectrometry operations in a laboratory with three HpGe spectrometers. This is a career-path opportunity for a person looking to grow within the technical field of Environmental Health Physics and Environmental remediation and gain/improve management skills. The position is a three-to-five-year opportunity and a step forward with a high growth company looking to grow the new generation of Health Physicists.

  • Manage work of other staff gamma spectroscopists
  • Perform daily instrument checks of background and calibration
  • Interpret gamma spectrums to assess data quality and validity
  • Manage multiple computer files and maintain records
  • Manage sample preparation operations
  • Prepare sample reports
  • Prepare/update procedure

Qualifications

  • B.S. or M.S. in Health Physics or Nuclear Engineering, Physics, Math, Chemistry, or Engineering.
  • Three years' experience performing gamma spectroscopy can substitute for the college degree.
  • Leadership ability to manage own workload and the work of others.
  • Leadership ability to autonomously run day-to-day laboratory operations.
  • Ability to calibrate gamma spectrometers.
  • Ability to interpret natural series or fission product gamma spectrums.
  • Knowledge of Genie 2000 software
  • Experience with data management

Desirable Skills

  • Four-year college degree in Health Physics, Nuclear Engineering, Physics, Math, Chemistry, or Engineering.
  • Experience with Canberra APEX.
  • Computer programming skills in SQL.
  • Experience with and ability to interpret natural series gamma spectrums.
  • Experience with MARSSIM.
  • Ability to take data-logged gamma spectrums, identify the radionuclides present, and plot the data using geographical information system.
