Health Promotion and Prevention Services (HPPS) invites applications for the Health Promotion Coordinator for Alcohol, Tobacco & Other Drugs (ATOD) Coordinator position. We are seeking applicants who are interested in working as part of a team to empower students to achieve optimal well-being through health promotion, advocacy, and community involvement. The Health Promotion Coordinator for ATOD will be responsible for implementing evidence-based initiatives to reduce the consequences associated with the use and misuse of substances. Through their work with university partners, this individual will work to create offerings and initiatives that are directed at substance abuse prevention, risk reduction and support students in recovery. The ATOD Health Promotion Coordinator will facilitate the implementation of motivational interviewing programs and/or Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) for students who have alcohol and other drug violations.
To be successful in the position, the ATOD Health Promotion Coordinator will need to be highly collaborative and creative, and knowledgeable of current ATOD and health trends. An ideal candidate will have depth of knowledge regarding the substance use/misuse/abuse behaviors of college students, understand and be able to implement best practices of public health, ATOD health promotion, and health communications; and have a proven track record of developing and evaluating programs and initiatives. The position works collaboratively with Student Affairs colleagues, faculty, students, families and community partners to address risk factors and promote protective factors associated with student health and safety.
Responsibilities include:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy plan for ATOD use and misuse for Binghamton University students, utilizing national best practice guidelines and contemporary research.
- Plan, develop, implement and evaluate ATOD programming, which includes outreach, workshops and training.
- Lead the Binghamton Campus Community Coalition (BCCC), which consists of campus and community stakeholders, in the development of community capacity that responds to student needs and develop harm reduction initiatives.
- Serve as a resource and consultant to the Binghamton campus community for substance abuse-related problems, including consulting and collaborating with various university departments.
- Works closely with the Division of Student Affairs Communications staff to develop and execute a communication plan for population level prevention messaging and outreach opportunities via social media and other avenues.
- Supervise student workers (graduate and undergraduate) and provide training on ATOD-related content.
- Contribute to the university's Tobacco and Smoke Free Campus Initiative.
- Provide oversight to the Brief Alcohol Screening and Intervention for College Students (BASICS) and ECheckUpToGo.
- Collaborate with the Office of Student Conduct, Residential Life and Campus Police to implement evidence-based interventions for ATOD violations on campus.
- Support the recovery community by facilitating training for students, staff and faculty on supporting students in recovery.
- Incorporating multicultural diversity and social justice concepts and principles into all ATOD programs and services.
- Serve as the point person to ensure Drug Free Schools and Community Act compliance. Responsibilities will include drafting the Biennial Review Report and the Annual Notifications.
- Serve on campus and community committees and other task forces as assigned.
- Evening and weekend work will be required at times.

- Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Health Education, Social Work, or a related field.
- Minimum of one-year of experience (professional or graduate student experience will be considered) in alcohol and drug prevention or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge and ability to work with the strategic prevention framework and current ATOD issues.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement ATOD education and prevention programs.
- Demonstrated current knowledge of ATOD prevention research and best practices, preferably with respect to the developmental tasks unique to the college-age cohort and campus community setting.
- Demonstrated leadership ability and ability to work independently.
- Excellent organizational, communication, collaboration, consensus-building and interpersonal skills.
- Proven record of successful educational outreach and program delivery.

- Multi-cultural competence, with knowledge and skills to work with diverse populations and develop culturally sensitive programming.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Health Education, Public Health, Social Work, Psychology or related field.
- Two years of demonstrated professional experience with college-aged clients working in higher education and ATOD prevention.
- Experience with social norms and marketing campaigns.
- Experience with motivational interviewing (i.e. SBIRT Screening) for substance abuse prevention, and/or experience as a BASICS provider.
- Advanced skill and experience in assessment and program evaluation.
- Experience addressing public health issues in order to impact the culture of a community.
- Experience in supervising graduate assistants, interns and/or peer educators.
