FUNCTIONAL PURPOSE

An employee in this class performs in the following areas: courier and delivery services

Work includes heavy lifting maintaining a regular schedule, following specific orders and the safe operation of school system vehicles up to a 24’ Box Truck with lift gates and air brakes. Work is reviewed by Warehouse Supervisor and/or Crew Leader for adherence to schedules, correctness of carrying out work orders and deliveries, feedback from customers, attendance and punctuality and following instructions. Some record keeping duties may be performed as a part of this class. Duties may include working in more than one service area or providing backup services to others in the assigned work unit.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Prepares and organizes heavy goods for delivery in a timely manner. Drives deliver truck to assigned sites
• Distributes office supplies, custodial supplies, textbooks, furniture, program materials (supplies/equipment). Transports and distributes all warehoused items to various sites in the school system.
• Verifies deliveries and requests recipients to sign for orders as required.
• Makes special pickups and deliveries at various times, such as for summer school, textbook orders, special administrative request, etc.
• Adjust work performance or routine to meet the needs of individual internal customers, as required.
• Maintains and keeps appropriate records, logs, or other required written information in the assigned area to verify and document work orders completion of tasks.
• During deliver and pickup procedures, maintains all delivery trucks and equipment inventory in clean and usable condition at all times.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Working knowledge of the assigned service area delivery/warehousing/stock operations, courier/truck operations.
• Basic knowledge of shipping /receiving processes.
• Ability to maintain records, logs, and written materials to support assigned work activities.
• Ability to communicate effectively in oral and or written forms.
• Ability to perform daily work assignments with minimum supervision.
• Basic Knowledge of computers to be able to process work orders in a timely manner.
• Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with school officials, school personnel, vendors, coworkers, and the general public, as required for the position.
• Ability to follow instructions and organize work duties accordingly.
• Willingness and ability to deliver exceptional customer service in fulfilling the job responsibilities.
• Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work to meet needed deadlines.
• Ability to lift/carry heavy objects for some distance for a sustained period of time.
• Physical agility to perform assigned duties.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

• Minimum: Graduation from high school or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Desirable: one year of experience in a related position (warehouse/ inventory work, administrative support, or purchasing services); or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS:

• The possession of a valid appropriate North Carolina driver’s license, with a satisfactory driving record.
• Preferred: Ability to drive a forklift

Pay Grade 58 - $2,600 Minimum Monthly Salary - Full Time - 12 Month Position
